I follow David Barron and I'm pretty sure he had a tweet last week about the Rockets having strong ratings this year? Might have imagined it...

People forget that people don't show up to games in the first half. A *lot* of people come late. start of 3rd quarter is a better judge of how filled an arena is.

If their ratings went up .7 points that is an increase of 60%, and their market share only went up 40%. However even a team like the suns get a 2.0 rating. I think the reason why CSN houston failed is because houston just doesn't care all that much about the rockets.

In terms of empty seats in the arena the Rockets need to make some kind of deal that if by the 2nd quarter seats arent' filled, people should be let in for $15 or whatever a pop and can sit anywhere they want. Or at least start from the lower bowl and work their way up to the rafters as the fans pile in. Simple solution!

It's absolutely the reason that CSN failed. Demand for a pricey regional sports network that covered baseball and basketball just isn't there in Houston.

However, DTV is probably pretty happy with that 1.7 for now.

Lastly, the market share went from like 40% of TV households to 80% or something so it went up by more than 40%. Number of households with access to the Rockets has nearly doubled, if not actually doubled.

Now, how many know that happened still? Plus, it's early in the year. As the season wears on people will start to care more if the team is good. Going from two years of no Rockets on tv PLUS the history of the Rockets not being title contenders doesn't just get erased over night.

Part of the reason is dish. A lot f people have dish and still can't watch the games.

Who the hell honestly has dish in Houston though? seriously numbers...less than 10%?

The ratings will slowly rise with time.

    A lot of people?

Dish isn't some minor no name provider.

Between Comcast, ATT and DTV they have over 80% market share. Maybe 85% or a slight notch under it.

Dish isn't a big player in the grand scheme of things.

What?? A TON of people have Dish, myself included. Dish has the best international packages out of the all the carriers, so if you're interested in overseas television, Dish is the best option you have. It's certainly more than 10%.....especially when you consider that a lot of people live in areas where Comcast and AT&T are unwilling to go.
