Yes, I just said I did and gave my reasons why.

for the record, I called them both "soulless" and "animals," but I also agree with JuanValdez' over-arching theme of being wary of the slippery slope.

I agree they would if they could. One of the reasons some of them would want to is because we've used torture. So using torture isn't a good way to prevent these kinds of attacks.

Also torture isn't a good way to get the information that would stop possible attacks on the U.S. It has been shown to be ineffective.

Furthermore, torture is wrong. It's one of the reasons people like Saddam were huge pieces of $&*$. I like the idea of living in a nation that sticks by its principles and take the moral high ground as much as possible.

Anyone who tortures is a POS.

And I'm not trying to call anyone out or reproach anyone. I had the same angry thoughts everyone else did when I saw the news. I was reminded though of some of the thought processes I engaged in before someone pointed out to me this pitfall. It's really not for the folks in the Taliban -- I'm fine with killing such enemies. It's really about holding ourselves to a standard and guarding ourselves from temptations to do bad things.

Cmon. We should empathize with the enemy.

Do you know what empathy is? Why is that a bad thing to want to understand what motivate and drives an enemy? How do you expect to defeat them if you don't want to grasp what makes them do what they do?

The same kind of man that takes one of those male children and makes him a dancing boy or sexual slave -- Muhammad must be so proud.

Prevention seems like a more lasting solution.

Pakistan's army should nuke the remote areas where the taliban are allowed to self govern. They deserve the worst type of fate possible.

Doesn't matter if it's rational. You can't change behavior unless you understand why it happens.

We do shoot them. And bomb them. And torture them. And on and on. How does that help you stop the next one? It's this kind of shallow thinking that has us spinning our wheels in this war.

How you love standing on your moral high round. Quite a jump to suggest that calling someone who purposefully kills innocent kids an animal leads to the path of killing innocent children. Now hear this BBS, the correct nomenclature for someone who kills kids is "bad person," lest you be lectured by Juan Valdez for being on the path of killing innocent children.

And while torturing prisoners/terrorists is bad, it's tricky how you casually couple that with killing children like one will lead to the other. I assume what you were trying to show is that it is proven we torture terrorists, so it's a slippery slope for us to start targeting schools and slaughtering children?

It seems like your making some very contrived connections to prove that some relatively minor offenses makes us no better than these "bad people" (except for you of course, who is way above the fray).

This attack occurred in the Pakistan's 5th largest city, with a population of over 1.5 million. Not in some remote village.

    Disgusting.

Why do individuals such as yourself have to create this false dichotomy where either you call out these terrorists as evil or you criticize our government's morally reprehensible practices, thus you are a terrorist sympathizer.

You know it's not mutually exclusive to have hatred for these terrorists and at the same time acknowledging that our own government are not always shining beacons of light with morality.

WTF are you talking about? I agree with everything you said, and I still think JuanValdez's comments come across as pompous.

    The art of war....

Maybe not rational to us on the outside... But I'm sure they've had some children killed as well which is probably why they specifically attacked a school attended by kids of military personnel (from my understanding). Eye for an eye type move.

But it's a war zone over there and there are no rules in war. It makes our issues in this country look very small.
