I loved the first few episodes of the season, but can't say I've liked what's going on lately. The way they handled charlie and also the college rape storyline left me very unsatisfied.
You know, there have been a lot of episodes that I LOVE on this show. Very few shows have hit me the way some of the episodes have hit me on this one (the only one that really comes to mind right now is Friday Night Lights). I agree with you guys, there have been some really good episodes this season... but this past one was pretty "meh". I mean, there were many parts where I knew I should feel something, but I didn't. It's a shame, really.
The pacing of the episode seemed rushed. But they ARE running out of episodes. If they end the series on a high note like the epic opening monologue from season 1 episode 1 I will be happy.
I'm pretty sure Sorkin had that opening monologue scripted for awhile, and just had to find the right show/vehicle to employ it. Since then, most of the "meaningful dialogue" has simply been stuff he's used before in other shows, just slightly re-worded. Like the part in the last episode where Maggie says "If you wanted to be with me, you would've been with me..." is basically the exact same quote (same pacing) from the social network..."If you guys were the inventors of facebook... you would have invented Facebook."
I agree, this past episode had just a multitude of things happening, still I've enjoyed this show all the way through. Really looking forward to the final episode.
thoughts on the series finale? it felt rushed to me, like it was wrapped up too quickly. strange they only went 6 episodes rather than 9 or 10 like the first couple of seasons
agree on the rushed feeling but i still enjoyed the finale. wiped the bad taste of the penultimate episode away. neil and sloan especially made a great lasting impression me. neil owning bree and the other digital guys. and olivia munns performance in general has been great- when she asked will if he wanted to explain how don contributed more to the death of their friend and leader had me rolling. it did all wrap up a little too neatly for me, but i guess i can let it slide. i wish jim and maggie's journey had been done a little differently. also, tess is a hottie.
Watched the finale last night, thought it was well done. A bit rushed like you guys mentioned but still fitting end to the series.
thoroughly enjoyed the finale, olivia munn was great, jeff daniels is emmy worthy, guy who played neil also did very well "do you guys want to go bury charlie now or do you feel like you've already done that?"
Didn't Daniels already win an emmy for this role? Beating out Walter White and Tyrion Lanaster? If so, I think he's already proven that it was the perfect role for him... and a pretty good character overall.
I really liked the Don character into seasons 2 and 3 a lot. He quickly became my favorite. Sorkin presumably wanted to make him the villain in season 1, and it just didn't work. when they wrote him as a nice guy after he and Maggie broke up - i really started to dig his character. Sadoski plays it well, and the chemistry that he and Munn showed this season was outstanding. I hope to see more of Sadoski in future shows.
Yeah, that character definitely went through some changes (for the better), and the actor pulled it off. He was originally smug, supposedly not well liked, and power-trippy... Sorkin managed to keep his arrogance but actually make it somewhat likable. Maggie's character also changed every season... in a not-so-believable sort of way.
