He's not who I'd like to cut, but he is a logical choice being he is unlikely to make the team. I'd rather cut Deduno.

Of course, last season I'd have felt the same way about McHugh and later on Sipp. Pitchers (relief ones especially) can have magical turnarounds.

    CF Fowler
    2B Altuve
    C Castro
    RF Springer
    DH Carter
    1B Singleton
    SS Lowrie
    3B Dominguez
    LF Marisnick

Really think this could be a .500 season

I can not imagine a scenario that Deduno makes the team. Too many people ahead of him.

I still think the outfield situation is gonna change in a major way before the season starts, but if this is the lineup we run out there, i expect

    CF Fowler
    2B Altuve
    RF Springer
    DH Carter
    SS Lowrie
    C Castro
    3B Dominguez
    1B Singleton
    LF Marisnick

I think the team is gonna drop Singleton until he starts to hit. Those top 3 guys are gonna generate the lions share of our runs and we need to capitalize much better than last season. For a guy to lead the league in BA and steals, yet only score 85 runs is pathetic.

I wonder what kind of promises where given to Singleton to get him to sign his contract? If he's batting under .200 again for an extended period he should be in AAA.

Long Relief or 5th Starter Role he may have a chance for.

    Locks:
    Neshek
    Qualls
    Fields
    Sipp
    Gregerson

One of Chapman/Downs will probably be a lock as well, as I imagine they will want 2 lefties. Deduno/Buchanan/Folty/Peacock/White/Woj figure to battle out for the 5th starter and long man roles.

This is going to last, what a year, can Lowrie play other positions when Correa steps in.

    Agree with the locks.

The last two spots will be won in ST.

My guess is that Chapman and Harris have the inside track.

They would be my picks, unless the team feels they need a long-man like they did last year with Williams. I'm hoping White/Woj/Folty win the 5th starter spot, and we try to sign Medlin or Beachy to take over mid-season if we have an injury or performance problem in the rotation.

Got to be happy with the moves. team is gonna bank on the potential of the young guys. but it is going to lean on a few established veterans.

team might find wins harder than last year because, the better a team gets the less likely that teams overlook them. This team might still be at best a 70 win club. but there is a plethora of prospects waiting to learn the craft of MLB everyday player.

focus is on the prospects and I like it.

interesting to see both of you have Castro still with us... I thought the consensus was that we were going to trade him. Has there been any rumblings about that?

since Castro had a down year, teams might be bidding low. Lunhow is patient, and will likelihood for now.

I do not think that trading Castro was the consensus. After we got Hank Conger, the consensus was the Astros would not carry three catchers on their 25 man roster. Castros or Corporan had to go, with Corporan being the most easiest to trade.

The Astros reportedly are many inquiries on Castros for the last year or so. Luhnow's asking price is supposedly very high, so far there have been no takers.

I was reading your post and that phrasing stopped me dead in my tracks. I'm not typically "that guy" but for some reason when people say (or even type apparently) that it really gets under my skin.
