He's never had that kind of power.

He'll probably be in the 15 range again.

    Decent player, not special.

Lowrie and Fowler can stay healthy this lineup could potentially be pretty decent (assuming Springer continues to improve). I'm not even expecting anything from Singleton at this point. He just looked too overmatched last year. Hopefully Castro can get his batting back into form too.

your'e probably right after I posted that I went and looked at his stats... I wouldn't be totally shocked if he cracks 20 once but 25 seems a bit out of range.

I just remember that one season he came here he seemed to have some pretty good power... I mean he hit 16 in 97 games and 387 PAs which had him on pace for around 25.

but honestly I would rather he be the .290 player with 15 home runs than the .245 player with 25 home runs

    Lowrie 2014: .249/.321/.355 -10dRS
    Marwin 2014: .277/.327/.400 4dRS (SS dRS only)

So last year Marwin was better offensively and defensively while also being younger. Granted, I'd expect Lowrie to bounce back, and Marwin to come back down some.

Lowrie hit 6 HR last year.

That's going to be one tough lineup now add more pitching.

I was thinking the same thing, but am not optimistic that either can stay healthy. I'd be happy to get 120 games out of each them though.

solid signing to address a need. Agree that he will end up playing a lot of 3B (at least a platoon there) unless we sign someone. Maybe he plays 3B vs. righties and SS vs. lefties? If we think Dominguez still has a place on this team..

I like this move. He had a bit of a down year last year so lets hope for .280-.290 and 15-20 hrs...totally worth it.

Now lets get a starting pitcher! man, if they could pull off a cole hammers deal that doesn't cost us too much, i'd be stoked for the season

One thought, with the Lowrie signing, does this free up a bunch of guys to be used in a trade for starting pitching? Given his ability to play SS, 3B and 2B (1B???), it makes a bunch of guys available like:

    Dominguez
    M. Gonzalez
    Veras
    Moran/Ruiz

MattyD hasn't hit lefties much better than righties. Marwin though is much better against righties than lefties, and would probably be best in a platoon.

Reports were that he would come over as a second basemen, so doubt it was ever an option with Altuve already here.

Theoretically but not practically. Dominguez has little to no trade value having been the worst everyday 3B in the league with no positional flexibility and a weak bat. MarGo is a decent utility guy but wouldn't fetch much. I don't think the Lowrie signing affects the time table of Moran/Ruiz at all; they're still the future.

hah, don't count your chickens just yet.

it will be an improved line up, but it's no world beater.

Lowrie is coming off a bad year offensively, but there is nothing in his peripherals to suggest last year was a trend. In fact his LD% was a career high. I fully expect his OPS to be back over .700 next season with 10-15 HR.

He's been up and down defensively, typically adequate with a really bad year in 2013. That season seems like the aberration. As others have mentioned I expect him to transition to 3rd at some point.

Really a great value signing IMO.

Yeah I was saying I'd rather have Lowrie's bat in all the time, get Marwin's good D in most of the time (vs righties) given that he is basically split agnostic, and get Dominguez in the least amount of time (vs lefties) by moving Lowrie to SS.

This is a good add. It will be interesting to see what the Astros do when Correa and Moran are ready. I expect them to come up around the same time, perhaps beginning of 2016. 2B isn't an option with Altuve. If Singleton flops perhaps Moran to 1B and Lowrie to 3B.

I'm higher on Moran than some. All he does is hit hit hit no matter what. He's going to be a 1st division ML for a decade.

2015 the Astros should show that their relevant again, but 2016 has me excited. Especially if they're able to pull off a Hamels or trade for a TOR SP.

    2B Altuve
    3B Moran
    SS Correa
    LF Springer
    1B Singleton/Lowrie
    DH Carter
    CF Marisnick
    RF Santana or Tucker?
    C Castro, Stassi, Conger?

    SP Hamels or TOR Trade
    SP Keuchel
    SP McHugh
    SP Appel
    SP Folty, maybe VV?

Now that's a team we can get excited about.

    A full year away?

I will be disappointed if Correa does not break camp with the team in 2016.
