He tries, but he's not much of a defender, he's highly reliant on his speed, which worked at euroscrub level, even was pretty solid against nba bench players, but only works for westbrook (because he really is faster than everyone else) at elite nba level.
Nope. If there are no injuries, the playoff teams last year will be the ones who make it this year. Suns and possibly Denver and Kings may have better seasons than the Pelicans.
LOL. Reliant on his speed?? Sorry. That's not what I see out there. Dragic is a very PHYSICAL defender that bangs on his man all game long and grinds him down. There's no question at all in my mind that Dragic is one of the top 7 PG defenders in the league.
Bledsoe will play up in his man's grill, he's no 94 feet but he will do it 26 feet our, Dragic will sink off his man until near 15-18 feet. I really have no idea what you watch, do you like digitize people's heads on other people's bodies?
I watch a lot of games man. You're describing Goran of the last few months, who has been dinged, and isn't happy and playing as hard as he can play. I'm describing the Goran of a career. I've watched probably 80% of his games in the NBA. He's a tough, physical defender at the point.
That trade may not happen, but it isn't as far fetched as you might think. If Cannan continues to play well when he returns and it becomes clear that the Suns have no hope of making the playoffs, then come the deadline Cannan and a pick around 11 or 12 will sound pretty good for a guy that is a free agent in a couple of months and will likely be leaving them for nothing.
So I decided to go and see if one of those lovely Suns fans decided to put together a compilation and here's what I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyWD3XQtQbA A player playing defense at arms length the entire time, soft as a marshmallow, let's compare that to say his own team mate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnzK6_pI4JI Whose looking to play body on body as often as he possibly can. One of those players would fit our defense, the other would make it considerably worse
I really hope Capela gets a chance to back down to the D-League and show wha the has. He's the exact type of player Phoenix needs. He just needs to showcase what he has and sharpen his game because right now he's not ready.
And yet again I have to ask the question "Why in hell would Morey want to obtain a guard who needs the ball in his hands to be effective?" The one steady concept since Houston obtained Harden is that the offensive philosophy revolves around Harden breaking down his man time after time on the dribble. I laughed when people were expecting Morey to sign Lowry over the summer. I find it ridiculous that people here are fawning over the possibility of a trade for Dragic. Harden is perhaps the most dangerous NBA player with the rock in his hands, and he will have the ball as long as he is so effective with it. Catch and shoot point guards will always play next to Harden. Especially if they play great defense. Does any guard in the NBA display those traits better than Bev?
Because of what happened in the playoffs last year. Harden can't be expected to carry the offense for every one of the 38 minutes he's on the court..not to mention the 10 he's off. Having a secondary guy allows Harden to play off ball a little more to get some easier shots and more rest on offense, which will only make him better. Also, if we have a bad matchup for Harden (eg. PJ Tucker...not that Phx is much of a problem, but Tucker in particular gives him fits) having another perimeter creator would allow us to continue to run our offense despite Harden not being as effective.
Well, I'm sure Morey and McHale didn't travel to Philadelphia to meet with Lowry for fun. They had legitimate interest.
I'm guessing because they want anouther creater when harden is on the bench and they have talked about reducing his mins/ getting him ready for the playoffs so he may sit at the end of the season. I think Canaan can become that but should be banking on potenital or is morey going to cash in some chips now to check off this hole. I do agree when harden is on the floor I don't want a pg who takes away what harden can do
Fan rumors and speculation. To convince me otherwise Morey will have to sign such a point guard to be a starter. I feel sure Morey and McHale are just tickled pink at covering the starting PG and his backup for under $2M a season. If Bev next season will cost more than $4M-$5M look for Canaan to be starting. The guy is one heck of a spot up shooter. In case you had not noticed, Harden is the starting PG for the Houston Rockets.
Lowrey and Dragic are much much to expensive to be the creator off of the bench. A very good defender and spot up shooter are the primary requirements to starting next to Harden. Bev is one of the top defensive PGs in the NBA and is hitting a ridiculous % of his spot up threes.
I honestly don't think the team needs much of anything. Beverley to me is about as good of a fit as is out there in the starting lineup. He plays elite defense and hits open shots and floaters. I think Canaan will be that second play maker we need. He was looking REALLY good before he went down. Dorsey is starting to look legit at the backup 5 and I think Black can certainly hold down a third center role.
I'm with you and I'm not really liking what it would take to get a dragic/Lowry. I'm more interested in grabbing a veteran ball handler who can come off the bench, not turn the ball over and drive our offence for 3-4 mins a quarter. A player like Jose Calderon is what I have in mind even with his crappy D. Thoughts?
How about Lance Stephenson? We're lacking that Rodman type personality that most championship teams seam to have
