The problem with bbaholic is he is so convinced by his own hate, he can't make a rational argument, as in you can visibly see where the red haze takes over from any semblance of common sense. But realistically, we as a team have this dilemma, Dwight can't shoot, Dmo can't shoot, Jones can't shoot, somewhere in there we need a 4/5 that can shoot, so one of them probably needs to go (just like the Spurs switched Diaw in to draw Iblocka out of the paint) as versatility in matchups is the key to playoffs. This isn't about Jones, as much as certain people want it to be, this is about what the team has and needs, if Dmo was a jump shooter, Jones would be fine. So then it comes to, hands up which one
These passes any good? For the record, I do think D. Mo is a better passer overall, but Jones can pass just fine and ball handling is just not even up for debate. That easily goes to TJ just like post game goes to D. Mo in a landslide. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Jr00MbFO5Mk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Y070T9tOQN8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
There is no hands up. We do need a shooter, and Jones is the one to go. D-Mo is only moved if we are getting a star back. He is simply a far superior player to Jones.
I know what you mean, but I find it ironic that all 3 of them are shooting over 50% for the year. DHo - .594 FG% TJo - .521 FG% DMo - .508 FG% http://espn.go.com/nba/team/stats/_/name/hou/houston-rockets DD
LOL. No, that's your faulty logic. By my logic, we won more games than last year even though we have missed both Dwight and Terrence. Now, we all know Dwight makes a definite positive impact on the win/loss line. So that simply tells us just how much better DMo is than Terrence. He was able to help carry us to a better record even though Dwight was out. If Dwight had been here for those game, we might be undefeated in all those games Dwight missed. Logic?
Logic - A particular way of thinking about something. Fact of the matter is the Rockets won without Howard and Harden in the lineup. That alone isn't a sound foundation to build an argument upon when attempting to make a point that a player isn't important to the team. The Rockets also won without Asik and Beverley.
Is that because he is averaging 11 and 6 as a starter this season? Clearly superior a) I'm not convinced by the whole 'we need a shooter' argument. 0.330+ is a very reasonable FG% for a PF who does more than just shoot. If all they do is shoot from 3, it needs to be in the .370+ range. Last season, Jones showed that the offence was better with him on the floor by a significant margin. He provided 'spacing' in the same way a shooter camping out in the corner would, but in a different way - by flashing to the hoop, getting on the glass, or taking his man to the hole off the dribble. And he shot just well enough to keep them honest. The DMo/Dwight combo looked just fine out there last game (ok, it was the Nuggets) - but if there is no issue in getting good % shots, then no 'shooter' is needed. b) There are plenty of PFs who have improved their shooting % over the years, Jones being one of them (0.263 his rookie year; 0.304 last year; 0.429 this year). Obviously his numbers for this year represent very little - but it is at least a little bit encouraging that they are up isn't it? DMo is 24, and looks to have finally found his NBA confidence, he has been a sub 0.300 three point shooter in America, but shot 36 and 43% in Europe in 2 of his 4 seasons there. Is it impossible for his shot to improve? Paul Millsap (who we would all go mental for as a stretch 4) shot 11% at 24 years of age. In fact, he barely attempted 3 pointers at all until last season, where he shot 35.8%, and this year is shooting 36.2%. It isn't beyond imagination for either of Jones or Motie to become that 'stretch 4', by taking their 3pt shot above the 1 in 3 level. I can't see the point in moving EITHER guy this year. Who on earth would we bring back who would be clearly superior? Let them keep spurring each other onwards - there are plenty of big man minutes to go around aren't there???
No, his ability to create offense for himself and others and his spectacular defense is what is clearly superior.
I wouldn't worry about it, Jones has essentially no trade value at all and DMo has too much value to trade for what's on the market.
What? More talented? Don't get me wrong... love DMo and TJones and all that... but Scola/Landry were a FAR superior combo when they were Rox... heck, I'd maybe even prefer Scolandry NOW in their present incarnations (depending on contracts, of course..).
D-Mo right now is a more impactful player than Scola ever was. Scola was always a negative defensively, albeit not a disaster. In his prime Landry was better than Jones though.
no disrespect to DMo... he's shown flashes... but look at the numbers... DMo this year 27.1 min/10.4pts/6.1 reb Scola's last 3 years as a Rocket 9/10 32.6 mpg/16.2 pts/8.6 reb 10/11 32.6 mpg/18.3 pts/8.2 reb 11/12 31.3 mpg/15.5 pts/6.5 reb Scola's numbers look pretty impactful....
Not surprising that a team coached by one of the greatest Power Forwards has two young Power Forwards with crazy potential. doesn't get enough credit for their development.
Defensively he is great. Offensively, he looks good. But so did Jones. Jonesnumbers for a full season last year do not lie. His presence enabled others to shoot higher fg%. Also, he has a higher apg number than Donuts every year. But it isnt a competition! Both are talented young PFs. What is not to like???
Scola came into the league with experience against vets in Europe as well as Olympic competition. Scola's stats are from after he already established himself. Dmo entered the league without the miles and is only now starting to break out. Also Scola was on an average Houston team where his scoring was needed. Dmo is more of a role guy with dominated scorers. There games are similar but there path into the NBA is much different. Dmo may be better for gong straight to the pro's.
Scola does NOTHING in the league anymore, just another guy. And Landry has the Bogut disease, injured so much rehab should be listed as his profession.
Millsap has no Finals experience.... what makes you think he is the 'Answer'? TJones will be a customized version of Odom in the Finals.
