Sorry, the fail in this post is incredible. There is a dramatic bias in law enforcement, shown by the statistical analysis of crimes committed, people arrested, people charged, and people incarcerated. The image you quoted is hardly "statistical analysis," it is two cherry picked data points meant to mislead those without a background in statistics and activate their confirmation bias, as they have with you. The people who are most likely to be misled in such a way would be those who vote Republican, as evidenced by your commentary. It is pretty hilarious that you mention context, large datasets, and sampling while ignoring the fact that none of that is present in the two pie charts you quoted. Please, for the love of God, get an education.

This thread is about race. It's natural to insinuate racial bias depending on who you support. If I believe that a system is racially unequal, and there are those who support that system, then it is not a gigantic leap to insinuate racial bias towards that person. You don't seem to understand at all. The girl to whom you referred missed the target the first time she ever handled the device. On the second try, she hit the target dead center. The man hit three different targets over the space of less than 30 seconds from over 20 feet away. Yes, because it was. It doesn't. If it hits anywhere on the torso, the affected person will be effectively incapacitated for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Tell you what, I'd love to test this. Since you think an unarmed assailant will be able to overpower a person after being hit with pepper spray (we'll leave the taser out), you be the assailant and I'll hit you with pepper spray. I won't aim any higher than the chest and we'll start from 20 feet away. Your prize, should you remain able to overpower me, will be your choice of $50 or an unopposed beating. Which is correct. With even a modicum of training, which LEOs undergo constantly, incapacitating a person with pepper spray should prove fairly easy. I'll put money on it. It is unlikely that an LEO would be similarly untrained, particularly if there were a rule requiring them to use nonlethal options before pulling out a gun when faced with an unarmed opponent. Sorry to intrude on your discussion but with training and sufficient will pepper spray can be resisted and certainly within 20 feet a charging assailants sheer momentum will carry them into you even if you pepper spray. I've been exposed to pepper spray from an accidental discharge. It wasn't right in my face but was sprayed a few feet from me. While I teared up and it stung I didn't feel incapacitated. Also if you've noticed in the Hong Kong protests where protestors have been able to withstand pepper spray using umbrella and wearing safety goggles show that while not useless with proper preparation its usefulness as a nonlethal weapon can be greatly diminished. Anyway my own opinion isn't that police should be disarmed to down to nonlethal weapons but that I think training, tactics and policies need to be reformed and improved to reduce the use of deadly force that LE use.
