I cling to him: A) because I have no clue B) he has played a much more vital role in the play offs than Jet has in the past 3 years.
Way to lay the smack down. Repped. Jet played 31+ minutes in his last two playoff series for Dallas and Boston. He was the second leading scorer for Dallas, and the 4th for Boston. He shot 46% from 3 in those two series. They didn't win, but neither did the Rockets.
They say you can't have cake and eat it too, but ain't what supposed to do? Ain't you supposed to eat it too? Cakes on the menu
Actually, the answer is spacing. Terry and Canaan are excellent shooters, but they can be chased off the line on closeouts. Daniels' release is so much quicker opponents have to keep a body on him and deny the pass because closeouts will almost never contest his shot. Does that make up for a lack of ball handling and defense? No, but he does bring an element to the offense that the other don't. It is what allowed him to be a volume shooter despite being the one trick pony everyone knows he is.
Some of you guys need to understand that Troy Daniels is an undrafted 2nd year player who has played in 19 regular season games
Jason Terry is one of the best shooters in NBA history and Isaiah Canaan is shooting at ~50% on the season from 3 point land. Your argument is bogus.
I'm not 100% certain about you (although I think so) but others have been pining for Daniels before Canaan was even injured. Don't try to pretend otherwise. It doesn't matter either way. I know for a fact that you were clamoring for Daniels over Garcia. I can look up those posts for you if you want. Garcia, as bad as he has been shooting, does a lot of other things well that Daniels does not. He guarded Ellis' potential game winning shot against Dallas. He just generally plays disruptive defense that result in a lot of steals and bad shots for the other team. That's something Daniels does not do. That should tell you something. As bad as everyone thinks Garcia is, Daniels is even worse.
Yes Daniels needs playing time over Garcia. Garcia doesn't need to ever see the court again in my opinion.
Dallas was in the playoff with Terry 3 years ago also. Terry played 3 times as many minutes for Boston as Daniels did last year. Daniels didn't even play in 2 of the games. BTW, the reason Daniels belongs on the bench is that he shoots way too much. He leads the league in 3PA/36 minutes by a significant margin.
That didn't address my point. If Daniels was just another high% 3pt shooter then he wouldn't be on the roster as he has too many deficiencies to warrant development. He is on the team because his very quick release allowed him to be a volume shooter despite everyone knowing how one dimensional he is. It is the trait that separates players like Ray Allen and Curry from the rest of the pack of great shooters.
Your point actually made no sense. You were implying Daniel's quick release leads to better spacing. I think that's a ridiculous thing to say because it's not as if the defenders give him more respect than Jason Terry. Canaan and Terry space the floor very well. Then you asserted that Canaan and Terry get chased off the line with close-outs. That's another weird thing to say as they are both shooting like 5-6 3's a game minimum and making a high percentage. Here's another point about that. When Canaan and Terry get chased off the 3 point line they are able to drive to the rim or pull up for a midrange shot. Even better, they can get a shot for a teammate after faking the 3. Daniels can't do anything. So when a defender closes out on him, he shoots ~25% with his sweet quick release. Daniels just needs more time to develop. It's as simple as that.
Troy has been waived according to the Chron. http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2013/10/rockets-waive-troy-daniels/#17273101=0
