I wouldn't get too worked up over Amir Johnson. Toronto is actually looking really really good this year at being able to make a serious run at the conference finals. Not saying they are going to be able to beat the Cavs or the Bulls (assuming those are the top 2 teams), but Toronto seems to be all in on making a run this year. Not sure if they are going to be just giving up a guys like Amir Johnson this year.
However, I have no problem with Morey shooting for the stars. That's just how these things go. You go into the AT&T asking if they have the new Iphone 6 and they say no we are out, but we can upgrade you to the 5C today. Morey might call about Amir Johnson and might get offered Chuck Hayes or Landry Fields. That's just how those calls go.
I just don't see Toronto trading a significant rotation player for future assets while they are one of the top 3 seeds in the East-- I know the East sucks but it's Toronto and this might well be the best season in franchise history and you don't want to piss off fans.
With DeRozan out, I doubt they want to trade anyone that's producing offensively right now, unless they can get similar value in return.
Would love WC, he's killing it in Dec so far. But wouldn't he eat into Papa's minutes? And then TJ? He would obviously be an upgrade short term and would boost our scoring, but Papa is really the only other play maker this team has besides Harden. Not sure if Papa and Wilson can play together, it would be a super small lineup....
Looks like the Thunder are interested in Wilson Chandler as well http://www.si.com/nba/2014/12/12/bu...be-bryant-ty-lawson?page=3&devicetype=default
Kanter, eh? Welcome to August, 2014. Internal Kanter talks have been going on for awhile dating back to last season. Started this thread in August when he was being talked about again. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=257282&highlight=Kanter And then I removed him here when the dynamic changed with DMo because I knew Morey wouldn't swap DMo for him. However Morey MIGHT be able to swing Terrence, and a second rounder for Kanter if there's no better market for him later and the Jazz decide they don't want to bring him back. But we're not trading DMo for Kanter at this point.
I'm one of those that would hate for us to bring Melo here. He would be a chemistry killer, a ball stopper and a defensive liability. So glad it didn't work the first time, and that contract of his.
Whats the saying about if you throw S$%# against the wall long enough, at some point something will stick? You were not an insider then, and you sure as hell aren't one now. But good try validating yourself........ again.
Don't think he'd have to work with them to flourish. Kanter already has major post game. He needs to work on that 3-ball jumper though and get comfortable with it. And he's never going to be a great defender.
Glad Morey's aiming for a rotational piece that could also start on most teams. Doubt we get any of those: Chandler has been great for Denver, who is fighting at the moment to make the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed...maybe we can swing such a deal closer to the deadline if they start to fall off. Hard to see Toronto splitting with a key cog when they are the top seed in the East. A deal like this could happen in the offseason, maybe, but don't see this as a viable midseason trade. Utah is rebuilding and Kanter is a very talented big who are difficult to come by. Especially one who is 22. It's hard to imagine them splitting with Kanter unless it's for some valuable assets, i.e. NOP pick and 1 of TJ/DMo. I don't want to part with those for a guy that may not even start, unless there are major questions regarding Howards future in which case throw the kitchen sink at Utah. Hope I'm wrong on all three!
I wonder if Kanter is a bit of a "Thomas Robinson Play" where you get a player for the purpose of flipping him later. The difference, I think, is that Kanter can actually play (at least on offense) while Robinson was just clueless.
If there's any truth to the Rockets being interested in Kanter, I think this would likely be the case.
I tend to agree with the people calling BS on the rumor. Every team he met with in the FA process would become championship contenders if they landed Melo (with the exception of the lakers). He chose lifestyle over winning, Melo knew the situation he was going into with New York, he had to have known that they're rebuilding. Can't imagine his willingness to be in this situation changed because they're terrible instead of just bad.
