im not hating im criticizing and im criticizing hard cuz this has gone for awhile. its not just a few 2-3 game slumps here and there. barely 40% from the field isnt good shooting. he's had only 2 or 3 games shooting barely 40% after nov 12. for the season his three ball is at 35% which is average.
Love him or hate him, Ariza is one of the only reasons our team is staying competitive right now. It could be worse, imagine if we had matched Parsons to that ridiculous contract.
Not going to spend few hours learning nba basketball plays during finals week. I would rather you explain it to me in layman's terms. I'm genuinely curious why my post exposed such an egregious misunderstanding of modern NBA offenses.
Because on one hand, you're correct. Ariza would benefit more from an offensive system where he could catch and shoot if he was the 3rd or 4th scoring option. However, that isn't the case right now with our current squad. Other than Harden, Ariza is actually the 2nd best playmaker on the squad due to his experience and in part to our injuries. This means we need Ariza to dribble the ball a bit more than what he's accustomed to. Ideally, with a healthy Howard and Jones manning our frontcourt, Ariza would not need to handle the ball much and could simply spot up and shoot outside the circle. But, we don't have those guys to help create easy shots right now. So Ariza is trying to channel is inner Alpha Dog to help play Robin to Harden as Batman. It will not work in the longrun and will be quickly exposed in the playoffs against any seed we match up against. But, Ariza is not someone you want to handle the ball for very long. Unfortunately, we have no other choice at this time.
I'm not sure how what you said can be overturned by using google, but my own personal take is that rarely do you find players with a quick enough release to catch and shoot off a screen. In fact, I can't remember a Rocket capable of doing it. During Hakeem's days? No. Cat/Stevie days? No. T-Mac era? Not really. I mean, the only guy that fits your description that comes to mind today is Korver. I'm sure there are many others. But just the fact that it's difficult to name them suggest this skill is more difficult to master than one may think.
This. I think Ariza do need to take some shooting load. But he does need to be a little more selective.
Selective is right in the game against GSW he was taking a lot of bad shots. In my opinion he's a good finisher at the rim. although not the best ball handler if they are playing you for the shot DRIVE TO THE RIM!! I do believe that his game will improve when we get D Howard back, but as of now I think he's too perimeter happy. In addition to Harden, I can see Ariza being great from the elbow one dribble to the rim and he's now a finisher not just a free throw shooter. Not Morey's system but it's so effective why not add it into the system.
It looks like he may have been settling for jumpers since he knew he was going to be playing alot of minutes since his backup kpap is sidelined.
his offense is becoming Ariza 1.0 offense where he bricks a lot. But how can we blame him, he's not supposed to be second option on offense. still solid d though and I cant complain
Ariza cant attack, he cant finish, he cant create for others or himself. We knew this when we signed him. What makes Ariza so much better now than he was 5 years ago is that he's learned to accept his game for what it is. He isn't going to creep out of that box. He knows if he does he's just destined for failure. He'll be fine. But he isn't a true, pure distance shooter. And if he's one of your first 3 options on offense... you can expect problems.
Ariza is what he is, he is just being asked to do more due to injuries etc, once folks come back he can go back into his role and the team will be better for it. DD
Ariza's recent performances have to be viewed in the proper perspective. He is playing a crap ton of minutes and is forced to take on a larger share of the offensive load than is optimal. Despite this he still plays terrific D . He is worn down right now plain and simple , McHale has talked about trying to reduce Aliza's minutes for the last two weeks. Get him some rest and some help and he will fit right back into place. I'm not worried( aside from the wearing down causing injury)
anybody that has a problem with Trevor right now is off base... he has been a workhorse and a defensive anchor, his shot comes and goes and we knew that when we signed him.
Comes and goes is pretty kind with how he's shot this year. After the first 5 games, he's shot better than 40% twice. TWO times in SIXTEEN games. Make no mistake, he's been great defensively, but he's been nearly a non-factor on offense for the vast majority of the year. Even his wide-open shots are frequently not even close anymore.
Talk about his defense all you want... He can't keep throwing up duds night in and night out offensively. That contract year stuff is looking pretty legit right now.
