Can't be done with the TPE, but I say go all in for Horford. I've said it before, but he is literally the closest thing to Bosh. Can defend and spread the floor like Bosh; although he doesn't have 3 point range. I think it's extremely unlikely that the Hawks trade him considering how well they're playing though.
lol Horford plays his more natural position of PF and Dmo plays his as a 5. Should be a real good front court. They will give up Milsap before Horford.
Nah - Bosh took the 5 years. For all intents and purposes, he was going to come to Houston, but in the end had to consider his future. There are $27million waiting for him in year 5 of that contract (his 15th NBA season, and he will be turning 35). He probably weighed up whether he could sign (at age 34) a contract for $27million MORE than he could sign a contract for at age 35. Ie, signs for Houston, finishes 4 year deal, signs another deal for 4 years, $32mill To get the 'same value', he would need a 3 year $5mill deal after finishing with Miami. It was about the $$ for him, and he was at the age where he had to weigh up his future. I think we were a very attractive destination - and I personally think he'd be happy to be traded here. Probably a massive pipe dream though
Just asking because I do not know: if hypothetically the Rox acquired Bass with the TPE could he be retraded to C's in 60 days?
Rondo & Wallace make just over $23m combined. Even acquiring am $8.4m contract prior to Dec19 (or whatever the 60 day deadline is) , I find it hard to believe Morey would be taking on both of those contracts. That $8.4 from the TPE doesn't even allow you to match Rondo's $12.9m without adding another (if small) contract - 8.4x150%=12.6. That means you have to come up with another ~$6.733m in contracts to send out to absorb Wallace. That means moving one or more of Terry , KPap , DMo or T.Jones. Doing that seems like a very sideways move to me , strengthening PG (with a guy who doesn't fit and cant shoot FT's) while killing depth at two other positions. I'm fairly certain Ainge would do it .... Don't think I would give up the players required to make the numbers match.
Bingo. This is exactly what Morey is wanting to do. Guys, DO NOT get hung up on the identity of the medium-sized expiring contract player. Look at the 2014-15 salary. You want it to be at least $6 mil, preferably closer to $8 mil. You are acquiring THE CONTRACT. You want to position yourself to make trades in mid-February that will put this team over the top, and these trades will require relatively large expiring contracts. I predict that, no later than 12/20, Morey acquires one of the two players, and Morey gives up only a late second round pick: Tayshaun Prince Wilson Chandler I created a thread a while ago making this exact prediction but maybe my style of writing is a little dull. Very nice strategy here by Morey. Francisco Garcia will be the player who gets cut, to make room on the roster for Prince/Chandler. Garcia has been pretty terrible this season.
I sincerely doubt it'll be Garcia. He's a great locker room presence, and he still gives valuable minutes. Troy Daniels, on the other hand, can't even get onto the court when half our team is injured. Plus, isn't Garcia's contract fully guaranteed?
Advanced stats hate Garcia this season. One of the 10-15 worst players in the league with an average of at least 12 minutes/game. Morey's roster moves are very strongly driven by advanced stats.
Kobe is bad but Garcia is actually worse. Bottom ten, minimum of 10 games played, 12 or more minutes/game: 10 Francisco Garcia 9 Jason Maxiell 8 Zach Lavine 7 Vince Carter 6 Pero Antic 5 Robert Sacre 4 Andrew Wiggins 3 Nate Robinson 2 Willie Green and, the worst is 1 C.J. Miles I can see Houston cutting Troy Daniels instead, I guess. It will definitely be either Garcia or Daniels. We may instead see Daniels traded to a rebuilding team like Philly for "future considerations," which is another way of saying "nothing."
Although I think in this case, that date is pointless because Morey's looking at the 60 day before trade deadline as his real deadline.
Yes, of course Morey has the imposed deadline because he'd like to have the OPTION to turn around and trade the other player along with maybe Terry to get 120 to 150% of the salary back in a large trade at the deadline. However, you guys are thinking too much into this as usual. The simplest answer is usually the right one. Fact is, the TPE is an asset they can use to acquire and upgrade depth that can help them win this year. Its simple, and easy for both teams, and doesn't cost much to use. So why not? All this Rondo hedging, and rumors of whatever GM wanting to trade x player to Morey is all a shot in the dark. Get the best player available on an expiring contract that can fit the TPE, and worry about the deadline here in a few weeks when we know whats on the market.
Not necessarily. If he uses it now .... sure the date is pointless. If he uses it at the deadline , again , its pointless. BUT If he waits till the offseason and has used his cap space , he can then use the TPE to acquire another player .... FA signing period = July 10 which gives Morey a 5 day window.
but hardly a need to dump him for a TE, No? He is productive. It's a young team getting better. The team will want a contributor back and/or a good draft pick - not a trade exception and a second rounder.
first of all, no team is willing to sell talent for a TPE and second round picks right now unless they are so far out of the playoffs that they are already planning on next year. the teams that we are looking to poach from will be at the bottom of the conferences with no shot at the playoffs. forget bass, the C's are a game out of the playoffs. why wouldn't they try to make it? right now the only teams that might as well give up are the: knicks pistons sixers lakers jazz wolves the article said we are looking for wing (sg/sf) and front court (pf/c) players. here are some players on those teams who are not crappy, play those positions, could be had for a couple of second round picks, and fit in our TPE: DET - jerebko PHI - shved NYK - shump, hardaway, dally, jr smith, jason smith LAL - literally nobody fits the above criteria MIN - martin, brewer UTA - Booker
