I know I seem like a marketing partner for Edge of Tomorrow by now, but I gotta say it. A movie that was barely marketed has an 8.0 on IMDB, 8.4 userscore on MetaCritic, and 90% on rotten tomatoes. That is saying something. There is a very Matrix-esque feel to this. A largely unheralded release with a seemingly miscast lead role turns into a classic. I hope some of you that are like "I might check it out eventually" read this and will now check it out in the next day or two. You won't regret it!

I know this is really old, and I'd prefer not to have suggestions on movies this old, but is 'Independence Day' worth watching? I heard there was a sequel being made, but I haven't watched the first one, but the synopsis sounds interesting.

I only bothered to watch this because Mary Winstead is in it. There are some scenes where she doesn't look too healthy maybe even anorexic.

Thanks for all of the replies - I'll be checking some of these out for sure.

That's good - I'll watch it then. It's just that, Independence Day has a 6.9/10 IMDB rating, which had me a bit skeptical.

There are certain actors I just refuse to pay to watch and Tom Cruise has become one of them over the years (along with Nicholas Cage, Sylvester, and Arnold)... I wait to watch those movies when they're on TNT or one of my movie channels when nothing else is on... The same goes for batman movies ---> snooze fest.

Seeing how you've been out of the loop on movies _ I'm assuming you're out of the loop on TV series as well.

The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones, and Justified are all good TV series to binge watch if you've never seen them. Probably better than a lot of the movies that have been mentioned.

    Let me qualify my endorsement...

It's not a serious/intellectual thriller type of movie. It's pretty lame but in an enjoyable way - Goldblum plays the Jewish stereotype well (and so does his dad) and Will Smith plays his usual Will Smith character. But back when it came out people weren't sick of it yet.

All in all, I like it. Is it great? No. But it's enjoyable for what it is.

Anyone remember a movie called Source Code from 2011? It's underrated, IMO.

Am I a racist if I thought 42 was hilariously awful?

No, however I enjoyed it. I might be a sucker for bad sports movies though.
