I like this one (http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/players.html) better because you can easily distinguish who has an expiring deal and how many years are left on the deal. Some of the salary numbers here are off slightly and it includes guys that have been bought out but are still being paid. But I find it easy to find all expiring contracts. And I can tell when the salary numbers are slightly off because I've looked at them so often.
Brewer makes the most sense Also the entire Nuggets roster is filled with guys that fit the bill, lots of guys that won't require a ton of minutes but could be valuable pieces down the stretch
Unless the player is a real standout, I'd be surprised if Morey acquired any player who's contract extends beyond this season.
ive been tooting this horn for a while now, but since it is clearly relevant to this thread topic i will state it again. Especially since Moraye reads this board and might see it... a trade with the knicks is optimal, even before the recent news of the strife going on. They have no picks and suck. they need to get picks we just so happen to have 2 of their 2nd rd picks, this years and nexts. that 2nd this year is projecting to be very early and thus very valuable. they are going no where and need to focus on the future. We need a back-up center, they have 3 they trot out at the 5, jason smith, amare and dalembert. We could likely easily get dalembert for our own 2nd which is late. extra bonus is he is expiring. we could also use a backup wing defender, iman shumpert happens to be an expiring wing defender but likely costs more. we can go ahead and give them both nyk 2nds. we can even throw in rights to gentile and/or llull to grease the skids. TL;DR essentially target nyk because they have no picks and no future. dalembert/shump into the TPE for both nyk 2nds we own/our own 2nd/rights to llull and/or gentile. worse comes to worse and they play hard ball we can even include the minny/denver 2nd we have which is also a valuable early 2nd. gives us pretty quality depth, although we will have to like cut 2 players(likely cisco and daniels) or have a follow up trade.
Publically setting a deadline worked out so well last time. Gotta be a real morale booster for the guy coming in that Morey is planning on trading him again before he even knows his name. I get the idea of the deadline -- the value of the incoming player to us goes down after that day, so our willingness to deal will also go down. But, that TPE also has an expiration date. Doesn't everybody know we're going to want to trade it sooner or later anyway as part of the grand plan to get the 3rd star?
I'd love 1) Bass, especially with TJones health being unknown, 2) Dalembert/Shumpert or /Hardaway, 3) Wilson Chandler or 4) Cory Brewer. I think a deal with the Knicks is most likely due to their turmoil and just overall awfulness. Hope I'm right as that would truly solidify our bench. OTOH to Morey Bass is likely ideal: stopgap until Jones is healthy and a large contract that he can combine with a Pap or Terry to get a bigger fish at deadline.
