That could be one of them. Another one is that Asik might have a stronger base and once he is set, it is more difficult to nudge him out of that spot.

These last 2 are very difficult to quantify. Nose for where the ball will end up and lastly - timing. You can jump like a mofo but if you jump too late/soon, you might get out rebounded.

I've noticed this too -- I think this and hand strength are the cause of deflated rebounding numbers.

This exactly. He defers to his team mates. A lot.

I noticed too that he boxouts a LOT. There has to be a stat for that somewhere?

I think he's smart. Why take a 50/50 (or even worse) chance of getting the rebound when you can boxout and get a 80/20 (or even better) chance at it?

2-3 times a game he will have a rebound well within reach. D-Mo will just let it continue unimpeded to a guard. Most centers would just gobble them up. I feel sure the team notices.

I couldn't find any official measurements, but one site listed him as having a 6-11 wingspan. Nothing special, but not exactly alligator arms either.

Usually when your wingspan is smaller than your height it is 'called' t-rex arms. Harden has a 6-11 wingspan too.

Harden has a 6'11" wingspan until he's driving the lane. And then he has these robotic arm extensions that slide out of his elbows and make his wingspan 12' or whatever it needs to be to draw the foul.

Asik has a 7'2" wingspan and a 9'4" standing reach.

    D-Mo has a 6'11" wingspan and a standing reach of about 8'11" - 9'1".

It's about earning his teammates trust. Hard to do when he was constantly wasting offensive possesions with clangs on the front of the rim.

Sort of an off night for DMo offensively. He could have gone shooting 12/17 if only some gimmies went in. Also, I fell like some missed calls by the refs affected his play... He was frustrated, rushed things, looked lost. HOWEVER, he looked pretty good defensively, especially guarding the PnR - he did an outstanding job there.

P.S. We really need to work on our entry passing... Either that, or draw up some plays to dump the ball to DMo in the post.

Need Papa back. He's the only guy that knows how to play with a post player. Even Harden looks uncomfortable passing into the post.

Anyone know other good post entry passers?

Bang in post on offense, pressure on D and help to double team- he was exhausted, like his teammates. Everything gone be fine - by the way its first game when DMo get to post up, team and DMo have to learn that process.

It wasn't just post entry passing that was an issue. The Warriors had a very good plan of attack in the 2nd half for DMo, they crowded him and made it very difficult for him to get position.

At this point I would at dmo is a bona-fide starter. Easy for kerr to contain him in the 2nd half with other bigs such as Dorsey and black.
I like Jones coming off the bench and papa/canaan playing more minutes with dmo on the court. He benefits a lot from a little bit of spacing which is what penetrate on from other players creates. Makes me wonder if there is room for another wing player who does the same things ariza does [brewer]. Team is better off staying put in the backcourt and getting a vet like KG or Camby off the bench.

Based on draft express and everything i've looked at this seems about right.

Still, he isn't small, he doesnt have great relative length but he is still big.

Yao didnt have a plus wingspan relative to his height, but when you're *that* big and skilled it becomes a bit less of a factor.

Yes, DMo is Yao-like in that he is big and is skilled but not very athletic by NBA standard. Like Yao, DMo also has hand problem. He has trouble snatching the ball. This is probably why he doesn't rebound well. People used to complain about Yao's rebounding, saying that a 7'4 guy should get more rebound than that. The hand problem also makes feeding him in the post more difficult.

If DMo can become Yao-lite and be healthier, I'll be very happy. He needs to develop a baseline turn around jumper. Right now, all his post shots are either hooks or scoops.
