If this is a pre existing condition are you still going to blame the turf? The same turf that thousands of other players have played on with few issues?

There is a realistic chance Clowney unfortunately never plays at a high level again. This injury is severe and requires serious rehabilitation and not screwing around on Instagram or only practicing/rehabbing when you feel like it.

I cannot believe 3 #1 picks and a few years of Mario Williams is all they have to show for it..

Classic Grandpa Bob and his stooges....

    Texans fans deserve better.

I don't really see the bad field narrative working here though.

9 months for a regular athlete.

For Clowney? Expecting to see him come October of next year, say it ain't feeling right, then be off and on again until the end of the year. Then we get to hear more "oh but it's just bad luck."

But it's cool. Bridgewater's frail and stuff.

Well, at least we know he's a hard worker, and will do whatever is necessary to come back stronger than ever.

Yea, they said it was discovered during the meniscus repair.

I'm guessing it was an old injury.

Not that it matters at this point.

I do blame the field for the meniscus injury. We'll see a synthetic surface next season.

I really can't throw stones at them. He's never given them much to pull for or to in which to believe. Most unfortunate - they had the 1st pick in the draft and come away with nothing to show for it. Clowney hasn't been right for a long time. In fact, I wouldn't be the least surprised if he was injured when the Texans drafted him and that they knew all about it and somehow hoped he'd be OK. And as I said before hope is not a plan.

The time frame is based on the size of the surgery.

Kelce had the same operation, and he had a 6 month recovery time frame.

The 9 month time frame scares me because it tells me that Clowney's repair was on a large area & unfortunately the bigger the area the chance of returning to form greatly decreases.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

It was a hard to detect, pre-existing condition. I don't blame the front office. I put blame only on the medical staff for not fixing the problem during the first surgery.

My thoughts are they knew he was likely going to need microfracture the first time but elected to only go in and scope it and "clean" things up. When they scoped it the first time they had to have seen the lesion but chose not to perform microfracture with the hope he might be able to contribute this season. The problem should have been fixed the first time and they should not have waited.

That said I am encouraged after reading what the doctor was saying about the new microfracture techniques. I think he will be back 100% if this was the only issue in his knee.

It's reported that cartilage damage is difficult to diagnose without going under the knife... I'm sure the doctors were shocked at what they found when they repaired his meniscus. We can only hope he has not developed arthritis.

Scary part is CloakNNNDagger posted that hours before the news broke about Clowney's knee.

I'm guessing Clowney has severe arthritis and Houston wasted the 1.1

    Such a shame

Nine months sounds far too optimistic to me. My guess is that he'll start on the PUP list and end up missing the entire season. Can't wait to see the mood on this forum should that occur. The football gods must truly hate Houston... :(

I'm glad he didn't get on the field and cause more damage

Really questioning the Texans doctors at this point

Nah... The Texans simply have a horrible front office and an incompetent owner.

Is anyone here really shocked? Honestly... Is there any Houston sports fans here shocked to see a young promising budding Houston star's career in jeopardy because of injuries? I Hate to draw nonsensical parallels, but there's another big name in town dealing with a mysterious knee injury that just doesnt seem to want to heal. Would you be shocked?

Time to move on, and if we are able to get anything out of Clowney in his time with the Texans it will be a bonus. Rick Smith will have to be the scapegoat for this botched draft, and replacing him will give the fans some type of optimism going into next season about it's future talent evaluation.

BOB has done well in his first season as coach. We now need a new GM to go with him during his tenure as Texans coach.

I don't think his knee could get any more screwed up.

Torn cartilage + Torn meniscus + severe arthritis = Greg Oden 2.0

9 months.....missing the start of next season.....

    UGH.

This 2014 draft....with the #1 pick. Houston has received NOTHING so far in production out of this failure of a draft class.

Baffling....we were 2-14....and this draft has been a big ZERO.

At this point is is almost like the 2009 season. The entertainment is in the failure. How can the draft class get worse. Predict the failure.
