Just devastating news. Wow. I can't imagine a worse surgery for a player whose game is so built on his freaky athleticism. Awful awful news.

This appears to be the case. I did not want to take him because I liked other players more. Namely Aaron Donald and Mack. Obviously I wanted to trade back into the 1st to take Bridgewater. Doesn't matter because I do not run the draft. Anywho.. We are stuck with Clowney so I hope he fully recovers and returns to form. It's doubtful because he has the knee of an old man. Maybe send him to Asia to dip that leg in a tub of stem cells or something :p

The Texans drafted for potential. The chance to pair an elite athletic specimen with a sure fire future HOF D-lineman was extremely enticing. The Texans made the right decision in drafting Clowney. They couldve traded down, but there were really no takers... Ofcourse what has transpired has been terrible, not only for the organization, but for a young man filled with a lot of promise. I still dont understand how his knee "is arthritic" totally implies that the degenerative changes were years in the making. Regardless, the kid has a long journey in front of him. Talk about devastating news...Watt needs help on the D-line and 2 of the first 3 picks were spent to address this need. :(

Wish you the best big fella, and please take this process seriously; do your rehab and come back to the field when you can. Go Texans...

On the bright side, perhaps Clowney is the final push that the front office needs to fall on its sword. We finally feel like we have a real coach at the helm; time to give him a good talent evaluator and cap manager to work with.

Says the guy hoping Mallet would fail.

    Very hypocritical stuff, man.

It's ok to criticize a draft pick.

I never hoped he'd fail, I predicted he'd fail, it's not the same thing. I was happy when he had a good game.

Which Texans fans do you think would not want him on the team if he turned into a monster 10 sack a year player?

That's fair, you're right, those who are happy about him being hurt aren't really Texans fans.

Who is happy about him being hurt?

There are people who predicted he'd be a bust. That's not the same as being happy about him being hurt.

Just like you and Mallet (supposedly).

No one is happy about clowney being hurt. just a narrative being pushed by horrible posters.

If you are patting yourself on the back for predicting someone to bust now that they had a freak injury caused by an awful playing surface, you're probably a terrible person....and not actually a Texans fan. This is potentially devastating news.

    Again, you have trouble following.

I don't see people patting themselves on the back, but I do see people who predicted Clowney would bust.

You sure were quick to jump on Mallet in the game thread.

On the bright side, if he does lose the world class athleticism that we have grown to love at least he can fall back on his tremendous work ethic and still become the great player we know he can be.

From what I have read it could have been old or happened along with the lateral meniscus. Probably no one will ever know, articular cartilage is hard to spot.
