Ah, so the fact that it hasn't happened to Cushing or Watt yet means it's not a problem? What will we say if/when it does? "Yeah, Foster is really struggling!!!!"?

If he can never make it back to the player he was in college he may overtake Mandarich.

Yes he was 22/23. And his knee was fine and he went back to being All-NBA once he gave it a chance to fully heal. His one injury in Phoenix after that was eye surgery which had him out for most of a season- other than that season he played 78 and 82 games.

With the Knicks, he was an all star his first season. Then the lockout came, and he gained a bunch of weight and had back issues. Then he had hand issues.

It wasn't until 2012 - 7 years after the injuries, that he had knee problems again - and it was on his other knee, not the one that had microfracture surgery.

I'm not saying Clowney will be a shell of his former self when he gets back. It might be (though it's very doubtful) that he has Greg Oden knees and will need two or three more of these. But I am saying that his youth is a major reason for optimism here and based on his track record and size he doesn't seem to have Oden knees, and the one exception you've pointed out actually proves my point.

HAH, check out the Teddy Bridgewater thread when he struggles... Now that's sad.

Originally I was all for trading down because of the new regime and thought it would be nice to stockpile talent instead of putting your eggs in one basket. Then I as well went all in on Clowney.

I wouldn't have drafted Clowney. And i'm on record.

If I saw through him... I'm sure many other GM's did as well.

Cush is like an old man in a walker out there and he manages. Just sayin, some players are injury prone and some teams have bad luck.

Fair enough, I've already said that I'm not really going to battle with really stupid takes on the Texans boards anymore, so we'll just leave it there. Feel free to think whatever you want to think.

Well if he needs micro fracture so early mean the chance of him being ever healthy are not good. Its not like he has played as much as tmac or amare and some how his cartilage is all gone? How did the docs miss it?

And I'm sure the procedure/ medical technology has improved over the past 10 yrs helping increase the odds of success.

No one said his cartilage was all gone, only that it was damaged by injury. There have been cases of players having microfracture surgery early in their careers and ending up fine, Dan Marino and Reggie Bush for example, but it's obviously a risky situation. The severity and location of the damaged cartilage will determine how hard a time he'll have coming back. Also important is that they are making advances in medical technology all the time and Stephanie Stradley suggested that he didn't have the traditional microfracture surgery, rather something new. No clue what that means, but there's no reason to completely write him off just yet. The fact that he was able to play through the injury until his knee swelled up too much might mean that he'll have an easier recovery.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinions. Either way, this forum has been through a lot with the Brigewater only fans and Remii being Remii, it doesn't need me adding to it by calling people to task every time they have a terrible sports take.

Besides Buffalo and maybe the Jags I'm certain just about every other team would have drafted him. He is a once in a generation talent who hadn't really been coached up. Now if there were health concerns that the Texans medical staff missed that's a different story.

I cannot help but think . . .. . Clowney played this like a champ
Did just enough to get the #1 overall draft pick

I am insanely curious how all this was missed
I have hear ridiculous stories about how they put those guys through the paces
and inspect everything from the rooter to the tooter.

    Yet this was missed
I don't say that to say that Clowney is a bad guy
    but
I know he *had* to do everything to make sure the level of the injury remained secret
else. . . he probably would not even have gone in the second round

Knowing what we know now . . . . does anyone think anyone would have taken him in the top 2 rounds
    maybe a 3rd for 4th round flyer on him . . . . .

Texans chick thinks the cartilage injury was an "old injury"

Good point. Brings further understanding of the Astros' handling of Brady Aiken.
