You put it simple and clear. And that didn't even include his shuffling before the two steps. Traveling x2. And to get back to the topic, Parsons played well in the last game.
Now if he can do that consistently against teams like Portland, Spurs, Warriors, Rockets rather than east coast trash, then we got something going.
Chandler Parsons is averaging 17.2 ppg on 46% FG over the past 10 games, which look consistent with the stats he put up in previous seasons as a Rocket. He got off to a slow start in Dallas, but it looks like he's found his groove.
Parsons had those types of games with us too. He would get hot and stay relatively hot for most of the game. But max type players earn their money through consistency. And especially, those nights when the shot isn't going in but they still manage to score 25 and affect the game. If he averaged 22+ppg, 6rpg, 4apg the argument could be made that he was worth the contract. His averages of 15, 5 and 2 are worst than when he was a Rocket. Parsons is and always will be a nice player. A player that can get hot for a game but, on average, is a middling talent. That's it.
I'd be pissed if I was Dirk. Keep his money and sign Stephenson/Ariza or pay cut for Parsons. Just dumb.
We can't just line up his stats and talk about his contract. We'll have to see, over the course of this season, whether he's made Dallas noticeably better than last year. Let's see where they finish in the standings and how they compete in the playoffs, assuming they qualify (probably will). I know that this course would require patience from us, so in the meantime, we should post more photochops of Love Handler Portions. There is no other logical path forward.
It wouldn't be fair to look at just ppg to determine if a player is worth their salary. Dwight only averages 18.3 for his career. I think what posters are saying is that he is now playing at the same level when he was in Houston so they are now getting the player they saw from last year. There is no reason to believe that his game will no longer improve so the jury is still out. He has 4yrs to prove he is worth the salary and we are only 20 games into his first season.
What I'm waiting for is for Monta Ellis to start demanding his own max contract, which will hamper DAL going forward. Two mx perimeter guys plus Dirk. They won't be able to sign any other star by then.

Monta Ellis won't be able to demand a true max contract from Dallas, because the Mavs are not eligible to offer him one. They only possess early bird's rights on him, which means they can offer him a starting salary of $14.6M at most. Monta can demand more from other teams, but not from Dallas. If he's happy in Dallas and wants to stay there, he'll have to settle for a $14.6M salary. Nobody in the Mavericks franchise truly expected Parsons to play up to his contract. They publicly touted him as a franchise player only to maximize media hype. But I seriously doubt they're drinking the Koolaid they're selling. They're not idiots. They clearly brought Parsons in as the 3rd option behind Dirk and Monta. They rarely even run plays for him. He's been the 3rd option from the very first pre-season game he played with those two. You don't bring a 3rd option in and expect him to put up All-NBA numbers. You expect him to put up 17/5/4... like he did as a 3rd option in Houston. Parsons is still a better fit in Dallas than either Ariza or Stephenson. They needed a 3rd scorer that would allow Dirk play fewer minutes and take entire nights off. Ariza is not that guy. And Stephenson has been a disaster in Charlotte. The Mavs didn't $45M because they thought Parsons will play like a max player. They paid $45M just to put him in a Mavericks uniform. Had they not overpaid him, he'd be wearing a different uniform now. Utah overpaid Gordon Hayward for the exact same reasons.
So much for he only shows up against lesser teams. Parsons is heating up! 20 tonight (5:26 3rd Q as I type) Averaging 20/6/2 (49/39/70) in December.
