No doubt, and knowing that Howard can walk probably means they defer a bit too much to what he wants, TBH. The best case would be Dmo on the block more often and Dwight crashing weakside. DD
DMo's post-ups could become extremely efficient for the team if there is an elite guy like Howard to clean up one of DMo's occasional misses. Truly a dream scenario.
Dmo is the post player this city deserves but not the one it needs right now. Spoiler I think with D12 coming back 'soon' Dmo will be forced into shooting jumpers again. Hopefully McHale proves me wrong and does what is best for the team which would be more Dmo post up plays.
But but Dwight is supposed to have an MVP season! (c) Hakeem. I doubt McHale denies him those post-up touches.
Don't know. I'm thinking about starting a thread to discuss who the actual difference makers are on this team. Because I am wondering about that in light of our injuries and our continued good performances. How much of our success is due to our roster and how much of our success is due to our defensive and offensive systems that seem to allow us to plug and chug almost anybody around Harden and get it done?
The thing that frustrates me about D12 is that against the Blazers. He was our best players and looked dominant in the post. Which he would play like that throughout the season.
At least he's a two-way player. So his 'bad games' will either be on defensive side or offense. I think he'll rarely have an all-around bad game.
Hopefully the offense continues to evolve with DMo and Dwight when Dwight returns. It should be obvious to Mchale what needs to be done here. We've got to integrate DMo into the pick and roll and pick and pop and move Dwight weakside at least some of the time when DMo is in there. DMo is a more-than-willing passer and a very adept interior passer. Dwight is a more than willing passer too but Dwight is not a good interior passer. Dwight doesn't have the soft touch nor does he see the interior detail like DMo does. Dwight is a good passer for slinging the ball across court when he is doubled but passing on the interior is a whole different ballgame. DMo has that. Dwight does not. DMo has the ability to execute those little wrap around drop off passes in traffic and the ability to throw the ball up to Dwight. DMo and Dwight COULD work in tandem quite well if Dwight would be willing to work off the ball and let both Harden and DMo feed him the ball down low. Once again, just like last season they only have to worry about overlapping for around 14-16 minutes a game. Then when one of them needs a breather we should really run a small stretch 4 out there alongside Dwight when DMo sits (either Kostas or bring Harden down and bring in the guards) with having the added flexibility of throwing a power big in there with DMo when Dwight sits because DMo has the ability to find the interior power bigs in the paint as well as throw it out to the corner if we are running smalls for shooting.
I've been one of the most vocal Mchale critics on and off CF.net...One of my biggest gripes with Mchale has been his use (or misuse) of DMo as strictly a stretch 4 shooting 3s.... but even I think now that he has concrete evidence that DMo's post game will breakdown the defender he's going to incoroporate it into the offense. But if i'm wrong then Mchale's touted strength as a coach (having player support and respect) is off mark.
I'm convinced DMo can become a poor man's version of young Sabonis. Perhaps not in terms of the level of play, but rather their unique skillset: - post-game / variety of hook shots - runs like a gazelle - 3pt shot (ok, that's a work in progress) - defense - court-vision / passing Some young Sabonis highlights (1st half of the video): <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/e3RigWshD6o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
