That would be great for OKC, and I'm not even a Monroe fan.

I don't know how this would really help Detroit, at least in the short term. Brandon Jennings is there for one year after this one and Jodie Meeks is there for 2 more years. But then again no one knows why SVG is doing what he's doing, and since Monroe will undoubtedly walk, Reggie might be the best he can do.

Yes and all the other PG's you mentioned as far as I know are not in the HOF either. Yes he is no Scottie but name me a better defensive PG out there than PB. My point still stands, you can make the offensive player work harder through defense.

I guess OKC doesn't think they'll be able to hold onto Reggie Jackson then?

What a joke of a FO

I don't think Monroe gets the max. I think something like a 36/3 is his market at this time, maybe 48/4. I think the owner is starting to feel the pressure of possibly losing Durant and he has to do what it takes to keep him in OK.

Such a lovely day it would be if Kevin Durant packs it up in 2016 and heads East.

However, Monroe for Reggie Jackson would be quite a coup, and I would hate for it to actually work.

The Wizards, KD! The Wizards! Come on, go!

Unless you want to be reunited with James Harden. But I ain't holding my breath or advocating a flush of these next two seasons to keep the caproom needed for KD, so.....

The Wizards, KD! The Wizards! Come on, go!

OKC is committed to $63.57 million in salary without Jackson/Monroe for next season. If the salary cap bumps up to just $67 million, that leaves them with less than $3.5 million to sign Monroe with. They'll have to clear out basically all of their youngsters to sign Monroe....even at just $12 million per season.

Let's say the cap jumps to $70 million. OKC will have to clear out Morrow, Lamb, McGary, Jones, and Jarrett just to get to $57.7 million and be able to give Monroe a $12 million starting salary while keeping Adams, Ibaka, KD, and RW. Then they've got to go find a SG with the Room MLE and the BAE. And that's only if they trade away their first round draft pick.

So basically the cap has to go to $70 million, they've got to clear out everybody but KD, RW, Ibaka, and Adams, and trade away their draft pick to be able to sign Monroe to a deal starting at $12 million. Dream on.

There MAY be a deal being discussed that includes Monroe and Jackson but most likely it includes a 3rd team with Monroe going to a 3rd team and OKC getting back other pieces. Or possibly a bigger deal involving Ibaka and Smith/Drummond going out as well. Or possibly Detroit sending OKC a future pick or two to compensate them when Monroe walks on them. Monroe for Jackson makes NO SENSE straight up.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: None of this is meant to discredit cyberex. I have no doubt he got this rumor from a legit source. But.....sometimes rumors are planted and are entirely false. And MOST of the time if there is truth to the rumor it is put out there by NBA folks in a convoluted manner with the wrong parts. The rumor has to match up with salary cap facts at the least. That's where you start when investigating how logical something is. It has to make sense under the cap rules, not only to complete the trade, but also going forward for the teams.

So, the question is, is Greg Monroe worth trading your first round pick plus McGary, Jones, Lamb, Garrett, and Roberson and having to come up with a SG that is either a minimum salary guy or a guy that will take the Room Exception? I don't think there's any question that OKC would prefer to retain a backcourt of RJ and RW, pay RJ, and then move some of their ancillary pieces around to stay under the luxury tax as opposed to trading for Monroe and watching him walk away for nothing OR having to unload everybody and the draft picks for cap space during the summer to re-sign to a long-term deal.

Now, that is interesting. But how do OKCers keep him for next season (with no Bird)? Where does Perk (finally, FINALLY) go?

Side note: expand to include Collison and reroute him here!

that "in the future" remark has to reference the summer of 2015 in a double sign-and-trade at the earliest.

Maybe OKC is wiling to take it in the shorts financially for one season in anticipation of the 2016 salary cap.

Then, if KD stays, so does Greg Monroe and his $12,000,000-ish per year.

If KD leaves for nothing in return? Start selling for draft picks. Or whatever the plan might be.

How could two teams "agree" on a trade that won't happen for at least 6 months? A million things can (and probably will) happen between now and then that could (and probably will) change both of these teams' outlook on their roster.

They can't simply "take it in the shorts" financially with Monroe. If Monroe is traded this season....he doesn't come with Birds rights. Only rights he has is non-Birds rights which means OKC can re-sign him for I think 120% of his current salary without having to create cap space to re-sign him. If they trade for him during this season they have to clear out cap space to re-sign him for any salary greater than approximately $6 million. And Monroe is obviously going to get way more than that. Some guys are thinking he'll only get $12 million per. If that happens, he went cheap. Too much free agent market. Too much big money coming. I don't think there's any way Monroe goes for less than 4/56 myself. And realistically I think he probably comes in at 4/60.

I thought Monroe was going to be the odd man out. I used to be a Monroe fan but not so much anymore. Of course it could all just be from being in Detroit all those years and the new scenery might do him some good.

When I say future, I obviously am thinking this season.

Lakers are also trying to get Dion Waiters.

Hill+Wes Johnson or something.... Hill cant be traded for a little, but Lakers future plan is something along the lines of this.

Top 5 pick = getting a center. Maybe a Okafor or Towns.

I would pay good money to see Kobe, Waiters and Nick Young on the floor at the same time
