You have to always maintain perspective and that means understanding (and accepting) that finding even a Schaub-level good QB is not easy. If they bring Mallet/Fitz/Savage back, it's because they don't think there's an available (key word) QB who's better.
This doesn't surprise me at all. It's been obvious for years that McNair has no stomach for developing a rookie QB, which is one of the classic mistakes that mediocre NFL teams make. Move up, draft Mariota, develop Mariota. That is all.
The price for Mariota is going to be steep. I'm sure the Jets, Rams, Bucs, Bills, and maybe the Giants and Titans will all be looking to get him. The Texans picked the wrong year to get the #1 pick.
With more and more evidence that there is the super-elite QB's... and everybody else (for which Schaub was one of those guys), I'd say it really doesn't matter if you can't even find a Schlub-Level QB (which I don't think is as hard as you paint it out to be... obviously they would ideally get somebody "better"). You either have one of the best QB's in football, or you don't. If you don't, you need all aspects of the team in place to contend. Guys like Ryan, Stafford, 2014 Brees, Rivers, Alex Smith, Kapernick, 2011 Schaub, Flacco are all good enough to win on good teams... but aren't going to be a miracle-worker by themselves.
He and Rosenfelds might be the Two best QBs in Team History! *chuckle* let that sink in for a moment. . . . . Rocket River
The question is . . .. is Mallet or Fitzie in that category? IF NOT . . . . . who is and when can we get them INTO the system to start learning now I don't wanna be in Year four talking about WHO IS OUR QB OF THE FUTURE I Don't want JJ Watt in his 10th year wondering if he is holding down a stout defense with a mediocre offense for ANOTHER YEAR. Rocket River
i just threw up in my mouth :/ i'm gonna enjoy the rest of the season, and hope fitzpatrick can pull a rabbit out of his hat & win the next 3 games. thinking about the future of the qb position for the texans is like swimming in quicksand.
He wants his team to be competitive every year, you need competence at QB to compete, rookies are always a high risk proposition .... you can invest draft picks and time with no guarantees. But Savage is in the system and could start next year. We could still draft a top 5 prospect this year in the second round and he starts. Don't know yet. But it will take multiple #1's to get Mariotta and he could be Joey Herrington. And cap-wise, we are going to have to replace Andre' Johnson so we need our #1.
Sanchez is not better than Fitzpatrick. What does Foles do for us? He's looked solidly unimpressive. And Hoyer is lucky to have a starting job next week. I think the most we could have expected from ANY of the guys you listed was 7-6.
I think Leftwich is still running the 100 he started back in 2009 Garrard was here and uninjured long enough to get a cup of coffee Rocket River
i blame luck. he should have started law school or med school then came out for the 2014 draft. but do the texans pass up on luck for a DE? the thing about these quarterback whisperers is they believe they can give anyone a makeover. not to depress anyone, as i'm hoping either mallet or savage can be the new way forward but since 2006 only Luck has been a clear cut franchise qb in the first 2 rounds.
That is my concern Kubiak rode in on the wave that . . *I* WILL MAKE CARR A GREAT QB see how that ended Rocket River
Good lord... so many of you plant your feet in the sand and dig in....... Matt Schaub had four great seasons under Kubiak, who also turned Sage Rosenfels - SAGE ROSENFELS - into a 4th round pick and won a playoff game with TJ Yates. And, oh by the way - Joe Flacco is enjoying his best year as a QB... yep, under Kubiak. If you wanted to coach the Texans in 2006, you had to take David Carr; that was the deal. Would you have rather they hired a guy who said, "Nope. Nothing I can do."? Because that speaks much greater volume, to me.
Rosenfels is worse than Fitz and Mallet. Not sure why you love that guy so much. Schaub was Flacco level pre broken foot. Nothing to be ashamed of and I don't see why he gets so much hate for being a well above average QB and making some pro bowls.
