James Harden leads the entire league in Defensive Win Shares. Numbers don't lie.

I tell them once, for example, Harden is playing great defense this year try watching at least a quarter of a Rockets game and see for yourself. If they just repeat what they said then chances are they are brainwashed by the media and I just drop the subject.

One guy was like Howard is a baby. I ignored the fact that he was a Bulls/Kobe fans and I told him ignore what everyone, including the media says. They are just angry he left the Lakers. He repeated it again and said he sucked in the playoffs. I told him that Howard played very well on both offense and defense in the playoffs. Like out of his mind. He said he's a baby again and I just dropped it. Not worth getting into it. The dude is brainwashed. I let him be.

Thanks my fellow ClutchFans! I've enjoyed many of your takes on handling this kind of situation, so far.
Was just curious as to how y'all would react to this. It certainly has been difficult for Harden to shake off the embarrassment that the media threw at him last year (and rightfully so) but he certainly is doin a stellar job defensively this year. Hope he continues this to prove the doubters/haters wrong, and that he is becoming a complete 2-way player.

This is why I can't get too upset when people still rag on Harden. Steph's defense is *vastly* improved this season -- it's one of the reasons they're playing as well as they have been, imo. He's in the top 10 or right outside in defensive win shares. Yet people still say he's a bad defender because it's what we've seen for so many seasons. It'll take awhile for narratives to change outside of a fanbase, even though it's not necessarily fair.

It seems like Team USA had an impact on a lot of these guys.

Harden can get rid of the critics by shutting down a quality opponent by himself. We play against Golden State this Wednesday, now would be the perfect time for Harden to prove himself to all of his critics. Shut Curry down, and dump a **** load of points on him and people will shut up.

Very simple. If Harden wants respect, now is his chance to earn it.

He won't have to. That's what we have Beverly for.

If Harden wants MVP votes then he needs to prove he can stop Curry from winning it, if he can't then Harden doesnt deserve to win it. Wednesday is Harden's chance to prove just how valuable he really is.

Lol you expect a strong SG (and not particularly fast) to shut down a fast( and one of the best) PG , can you tell Curry to try match up against Harden  , it will be a fun match up ?

Jordan and Kobe could shut down a PG like Curry. Time for Harden to man up.

Exactly. Don't get out of the game plan to prove something to the media.

Let me make sure that I understand. You're proposing that we match Harden up with Curry and then I guess that leaves Terry playing Thompson?

Why in the world would we do that? Harden has been great against Thompson and Thompson is way too big for Terry. We are trying to win games so why wouldn't you play your best matchups? That makes no sense at all.

When did Jordan or Kobe match up for a whole game against an elite scoring PG?

Jordan didn't even usually match up on the oppositions best offensive player...Pippen got that job. Did Jordan match up with Stockton or Payton in the finals?

Same for Kobe. He did match up against Rondo in the finals but that move was made so that Kobe didn't have to guard Pierce or Allen. Are you under the impression that Kobe guarded Iverson in the '01 finals?

well its easier for a negative video to be viral than a positive video. because of that video that was made last year is out there, it is gonna be hard for him to get over that hump of having the reputation of being a bad defender. in all honesty, i don give a fudge if others think he is bad. i just want him to do what he has been doing this season. the only person he has to prove himself is himself!

Well check this out then! About half of the espn analysts asked did not name Harden the best shooting guard in the league. Every single one of them cited poor defense as the reason. Even a few who gave him the nod still commented that on his alleged poor defense.

i really don't give a flying fork about what any "outsiders" think about the Rockets. If they continue to win they will be forced to pay attention. Just like our championship years...that was a boring team working the inside out game and a whole bunch of role players just pluggin away....they won games...so the media followed.
