Eventually, Myers will regress/retire or be cut... Jones will move to center, and XSF will be the guard.

And nobody should be writing him off simply because he's not the starting guard at the moment.

Nor should we assume he'll be average

The fact that he's still getting reps this far into the season is more a positive than a negative for him.... mitigates the "bust" factor that a player will never have what it takes to last in this league.

But don't let logic, facts, and most likely scenarios stand in the way of the "all the rookies are busts" campaign.

The problem I have with drafting another guard is that Rick Smith is still our GM. If it weren't for that, I would be all for it.

He won't have much input... especially for drafting offensive guys. Its BOB's team, and he's not going to let an unqualified GM cost him his job.

Then why does Rick do, exactly?

I'm not sure we know what any of those people bring yet.

Manages the cap, contracts, extensions, cuts, and helps recruit the free agents the coaches (or owner) wants.

Belicheck started this whole "puppet GM" thing years ago, Kubiak was advised to take one on after his first season/draft (ironically his best draft), and here we are.

If they get rid of figure-head Smith, BOB will bring in his own version of Rick Smith.

Who knows. The guy is coated in teflon. I bet the owner has no idea what he actually does and Bill just didn't bring it up.

No matter what you think Rick Smith does, this would be an awesome thing for the Texans.

I agree, it would be... but then that guy will start getting blamed for every draft bungle.

Yikes so he'll miss training camp next season? Sounds like what happened to Cushing. Might take him a big chunk of next year to get back into shape.
