Why can't we just agree that Jones is normal sized and Dmo has very good size (even oversized) when he is playing PF but not C?
Not when he is standing next to Dorsey and Black. TJones taller than Black who is as tall as Dorsey. Jones 6'8.5 without shoes, Black looks to be 6'7.5 without shoes and Dorsey 6'7.25 without shoes
I did not go the the NBA combine but he seems to be playing above the rim for a guy that is according to you 'only slightly above 6'8'.
Jones is definitely not bigger than 6'9. But he has great athleticism with great wingspan, that's why he's a shot-blocker. DMo will never be a rim protector because of his lack of reach, but he makes up for it with.
I believe that it has been shown that Jones is 6-8. And he obviously is not strong. And he is average defensively. D-Mo has more than enough size and strength to effective man the 5. See him versus Marc and Cousins. And he is a serious paint protector and functions very well against power forwards because of his quickness. IMHO. And statistically as well come to think about it.
It's not really about measurables, but about how 'big' they play. Explosiveness, strength and body positioning are more important than mere height. Offensively, Jones and now DMo can play big. Jones having the much larger sample size of success. Defensively, I'd say DMo has the advantage.
It's irrelevant what he is standing next to Dorsey and Black. Jones is 6"8.25' if you want to get technical. Which is way different than the 6"10' you are trying to cite with misinformation. As a side note, even 6"10' is 2 (not 1) inches less than 7"0' so that part was funny too. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Terrence-Jones-5708/ Also, nowhere in any of the comments that I responded to was his wingspan mentioned. So that point is irrelevant as well. I agree that he has an elite wingspan. But he is still undersized height wise and actually I would go further to say that he is not bulky enough either and is very skinny compared to a lot of NBA pf's. Height of course is what this conversation is about. He also does not have good basketball IQ and is frequently lost on rotations and positioning. He makes up for it with his athletic ability and wingspan. Overall though, what jtr said is true. PF's of that mold are a dime a dozen. Morey has drafted about 5 just by himself.
It is funny that guys are calling him undersized when the franchise had a 6'6 Center, 6'5 Mike Harris, 6'7 Jeff Adrien, 5'11 Aaron Brooks, 5'somewhat Boykins, 6'6 PF Weatherspoon and so on and so on
And all of them were undersized too. Your points are irrelevant and well...pointless. Not to mention, out of the guys you listed who are actually front court players (keeping things relevant is not your strong suit) we had Mike Harris who played a total of about 20 games for us. Adrien played maybe like 2. Weatherspoon hardly played back in the day. Only Chuck Hayes was a regular staple in the rotation. Btw, don't compare Jones to Chuck Hayes. Jones can't even hold Hayes' jock strap. Chuck had more basketball IQ in his little pinky than jones ever will. That's why he could get by with being undersized. Not to mention he had the leg strength, trunk, and center of gravity combination that is not even imaginable for most NBA players, save maybe Jared Sullinger. Jones gets by on his athletic ability. He will be exposed when that fades. They're just talking out of their ass at this point, making untrue statements with no relevant information to back it up.
Arguing about Jones' size is about as dumb as arguing about insiders. Seriously both guys have shown that they can do a lot at times with the size they were given. Can they dominate the likes of LMA or Dirk or Gasol?? Maybe not right now but guess what?? Neither can anyone else in the NBA. Not even Dwight Howard in the playoffs last year. So just stop the senseless arguing about inches. It's what you can do with those inches that matters. Both guys will be capable defenders at the 4 here in a couple years if they aren't already. The 5 they might even defend better given the lack of talent at the position.
Basically on defense I feel much more comfortable when D-Mo or Howard are out there. And we will probably see a lot of D-Mo and Howard on the court together. That is when, IMHO, we will start seeing Houston giving up less than 0.80 PPP. We will see.
Misinformation? Misinformation of nature..... Go to your biology teacher or someone and ask if men/women can still grow after the age of 18 and 19 (that is probably the time they have taken the measurements). Humans can grow to age 22. Those growth spurts might not be a lot but it can account up to 1 inch..... so he might just be around 6'9. FWIW
Agree to disagree. Jones has made little stride in basketball IQ or defensive awareness in his entire time here. His game is flashy so it looks cool to a majority of us casual observers. Carl Landry was a better team and individual defender than Jones and performed better for longer than Jones in his time as a Rocket. He also had a midrange jumper that was butter. Even still, he was traded while Scola was kept. I've seen this movie before. I expect Jones to be gone. The only thing worse than being wrong is playing pseudo intellectual to get one more jab in while failing to admit you were just flat out wrong. Better luck next time.
