So how are the Pelicans under 500? They have AD and a pretty stacked squad. Weird. Rockets are out performing them with a ton of injuries.
I havent watched them play this season until this past week against GSW. They have no real sense of offense. Evans and Holiday are looking to score themselves rather than distribute the ball. Asik is a great defender and interior presence but still not a threat offensively. They go away from Davis a lot - I imagine that a decent portion of his points do come off of put backs and screen and rolls rather than him trying to use his length and quickness inside. the bench outside of Andersen (i dont think he starts) is pretty poor as well (and is Gordon still a NBA player?) so they have the talent to be able to beat any team on any night but they haven't really put the pieces together to be able to do that consistently. I am not sure if Monty Williams is that guy to do that. I think the Pelicans are still about 2 years away from being a team that everyone fears solely based on the growth of Anthony Davis. My biggest fear is that he may end up like KG was in Minnesota -- a one in a generation player with poor coaching and talent around him to never really be a serious contender.
What does his contract situation look like? That guy needs to go to a big market. He is a sure fire hall of fame player if he doesn't get tallied by the injury bug.
It will be a while, he has to get past RFA first, and a lot times with these young stars the team will offer them max deal then and the young players take it because why the F not? It's a lot of money to just say no to. It will be a while until he's a true FA that it's not even worth thinking about at this point.
No playmakers, decent frontcourt but terrible roster construction, Meeks is injured, Butler is crazy overpaid.
