There is a test called the "anterior drawer" sign as well as "poster drawer" signs that test the ACL and PCL respectively. There are also certain test that test the meniscus called the McMurray's test. There are also tests that test the LCL and MCL.

These physical tests are pretty revealing. MRI is just used to confirm the diagnosis.

This. Any self respecting trainer will immediately know if a player tore his acl. Keith Jones has been around for a long time and if reports say they believe its not serious i'm gonna take that at face value.

This said...He probably does have a knee strain because no physician in the world would let him walk on a torn ACL without crutches or something to stabilize the injury.

There is nothing to protect anymore when your ACL is torn. The only thing you can do is put some ice to bring down the swelling so they can look at it.

What? If he tore his acl any self respecting doctor would put him on crutches or a wheelchair to prevent further damage.

If this is true I am very happy, all things considered. But man Garcia playing 30+ minutes for us is going to be painful.

What is there to damage if the thing they are protecting is torn? You have to sew it back in. I am no expert but I tore mine. It was painful for about 5 minutes but you can walk normally after that. You don't need crutches or support.

Oh god this means Garcia will get more minutes.

Can we please call up Earl Clark?

As some one who has torn both ACLs and is recovering from the second one right now, I can attest that if it was a serious tear they would be able to identify it pretty quickly with field tests. Meniscus is the tricky one to identify without an MRI

    That's like saying, I have a 104 degree fever, why don't I go for a swim when it's 20 degrees outside, I can't get any worse.

Hoping its not serious Papa is probably my favorite Rockets rookie since Landry and Scola. Also his is a huge part of that second unit and is one of the few playmakers we have on the team. The longer he is out the more minutes Garcia will get which is great news for the other team, but not for the Rockets

Stabilize the knee. If you keep walking on it you have the risk of tearing your PCL as well. It's preventative medicine.

I am afraid the analogy is a bit off because if you tear an ACL, you cannot damage it anymore than its current state by just walking. It will not heal on its own too. In any case, we will have to wait and see what the DR SAYA

It's up to you if you want to believe that walking can damage that. The main function of ACL is to resist anterior translation and medial rotation of the tibia, in relation to the femur. Walking in a straight line does not twist the knee.
