The addition Rubio would provide would be far offset by his negative when it comes to shooting. A lineup of Rubio Harden Ariza TJ Howard ? How many consistent shooters do you see there with a team that is trying to run the most 3 ball centered offense in NBA history? By a large margin I may add...
Rockets have been winning games despite Harden, Ariza and the rest of the team struggling to string together two game of consistent shooting. I understand what you're saying, but Rubio is a plus defender and and his contributions on that end and his play making abilities IMO make him a good fit for this team.
Are you trying to say Terrrence can't shoot a basketball? Well....hum ding. On a serious note, the addition of Rubio necessitates a shooter at the 4. That means not Terrence.
They need to practice the lop to beat the fronting. DMo had wide open space behind him to catch a lop. They just didn't know how to do it. Garcia tried once and was way off for a turnover.
It's just bad coaching honestly. The other big needs to flash to the high post and get a pass from the wing and then DMo can seal the defender off and you have an easy pass for a wide open dunk or layup. That's high school level stuff, can't believe our guys don't do it.
Everything you say is true, but it doesn't help matters that none of our bigs can consistently make FT's. D-Mo is the best at a whopping 64%. Howard, Black, Dorsey it may as well be you or me out there shooting the FT's. When the opposing team is in the penalty, our guards have to make a difficult decision. Do we pass the ball in even if the defense is giving up clear position (most likely because the defense is trying to bait us so that they can simply foul us), or do we try and remain more patient and get a better chance at putting points on the board? You make the call, since you're clearly knowledgeable of the subject matter OP.
Besides harden or kPap our post entry passing is piss poor. I remember the days of JVG drilling that into his players. These are the little things I don't feel confident Mchale properly coaches up his players on

BRILLIANT! Run a freaking play against Euro team defense. That's it! Why we no do this In all seriousness though Watch that whole video. The entire sequence from 1 minute to 3 minutes shows Lithuania continuously failing to get the ball into the low post, and they switch to McHale ball. Your video actually shows how the low post gets stopped even by bad Euro defense.
Great post and good thread. I thought this a lot last year with dwight. This is why coaches make the big money. I disagree only with your first part, it can be learned/taught and one would think with our coach being one of the greatest post players of his era would be the perfect one to teach it... We will definitely need this skill come playoff time.
Entry passes are more art than science. They only happen regularly after hundreds of hours in the gym. And each big man is different.
Just watch how the Spurs does it <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/wgBP4SSOxIY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Kostas is the best at getting the ball in the post. In one sequence in the MINN game before he got injured, Harden hesitated in passing the ball to DMo in the post. Kostas got the ball and immediately as in immediately launched a perfect lob pass to DMo. He caught it only missed the lay-up. Kostas must have done it thousands of times in drills. We just have to drill it into our players. Another way of course is through pock and roll. We are more adept at that.
they should let me mind control all rockets players because i am an excellent post entry passer in nba 2k15
DMo can also get the ball at high post and drive to the basket. He should also practice that (God forbid) midrange shot at the FT line. It's a good pressure-reliever and he doesn't need to get pounded all game long in the post.
It's been a month since I made this thread and the team has not improved one bit at it. Beverley and Ariza passing into the post is disgusting. I'm so sick of seeing Dwight catch the ball 3 steps away from the 3 point line because our team doesn't get him the ball when he actually has his man sealed. And at this point Beverly straight up ignores D-Mo when he has his man sealed down low. A huge upgrade is necessary at the PG position. Our team relies so much on the inside out game. Every other possession being nullified due to horrible execution of post entry passing is become infuriating. At least the other huge part of our offense (transition points) has being greatly improved by the addition of Brewer. Those 3 things are literally all this team needs on offense. Post-ups. 3 pointers as a result of post-ups/driving and breaking down the defense. And transition buckets.
The best post entry passer on this team is DMo ..... and he cant pass the ball to himself. Yeah , I hate watching Howard catch the ball out near the 3 point line when attempting to post up ... a lot of that is on the passer but part of it is Howard too. Rather than demanding the ball there , he needs to relocate and get better position.
