When healthy they have been very good at getting the ball into the post. Beverly, cannan, and harden are all good post passers. However with bev and cannan out its gonna be hard.
There was a pass by Garcia late in the game to DMo. DMo was being fronted and he just launched his pass. When they overplay the post like this, other things are open. Having post offense doesn't mean forcing it in, it means choosing the path of least resistance. We NEED to learn how to do that. Especially because Dwight and DMo will both force defenses to play that area hard. It will free up other areas.
No, because we are playing guys who should be in Mcallen or who exist to high five other guys during timeouts. You can't complain
Yeah this is the correct perspective, I mean we have guys that should be the 11-14th man playing right now in Johnson, Dorsey and Black....and still winning, maybe we should just count our blessings and PRAY that some of the guys are back tomorrow. DD
It was terrible. If Papa is hurt, we are going to miss him baddddddd. We need his "extra pass" and hustle.
You don't need one, but our offense is centered around Harden's penetration getting open looks for other guys, mostly on 3. Today we force fed Dmo the ball and it worked really good. Then the wolves realized that it was practically a one man show and put all their efforts into stopping him. You have a guy drive and someone will have to help off, creating opportunities for other players in the process
It's funny how much people hate that Morey wants Rubio. You have no Idea how great Dwight would be with Rubio passing to him.. Rubio is another play maker that would take the pressure off Harden. All those loose plays when people are scrambling and Dwight is sitting in the lane jumping up and down would be automatic with Rubio; he is always looking into the post. Granted he cant shoot be he can play defense, pass, and play make.
Eh, it's an issue even at full strength. Beverley is not a good post passer either. Canaan is adequate. Harden gets the job done. Papa is excellent at it. And as you mentioned D-Mo can do the high-low post entry pass in the interior. The point is, even with that said, more often than not the pass is botched. It just comes way too late. Even when we are fully healthy.
The good news is that there's still lots of room for improvement including post entry passing & limiting turnovers (although the Rockets are playing many new lineups they nearly beat themselves tonight) and the bad news is well... for da opponents
I would argue that with Harden, you don't really need someone that is looking to create/ primary ball handler at the PG position. Its no surprise that when Beverly has been able to knock down the 3 ball at a high clip, we usually win. We need a reliable shooter that can handle the ball well and play defense. We've played enough games against Rubio to see how we play off of him and dare him to shoot. Dwight has a poor post up game anyways, so we wouldn't benefit that much from great entry passes. Just need to run the PnR.
Penetrating has nothing to do with feeding the post is what I'm saying. "All their efforts to stop DMO" was them essentially just fronting the post. Fronting should NEVER be a deterrent to feeding the post. Someone just has to realize that they need to run to the free throw line, let DMO pin backside, dump it down. It really isn't hard. It isn't a called play. It's just simple basketball.
You are correct, but you make it sound like the coaching staff/players are idiots. We went through the same problem with Yao for years with 3 different coaches. Also, when you're referring to "dumping it in" right there, you are again grossly overestimating the theoretical aspect without taking other variables into play. I've seen players try to throw the same pass to Dmo before, and a lot of the times he is just too clumsy to catch it (like another tall/crafty guy we used have that got neutralized due to fronting). My point that the defense collapses on Harden and he draws attention, opening up shots for other player, still stands. I realize that it isn't the formula to beat the front, its just something we do that works as well. In the perfect Pop coached world where our players don't miss a beat and know exactly how to swing the ball around in such a situation, you are right by all means....but its far from that. I mean it is pretty fundamental, but so are set plays...which we don't run either.
Same people will hate it when Harden is being overplayed in the playoffs and not getting calls and we are turning the ball over like water running out of a busted fire hydrant.
You're so Wrong!!! With a great entry pass you don't even need post moves!! Dwight is criticized that he catches the ball too far out. That is only because when he pins and wants the ball he doesn't get it fast enough and is pushed out.. Rubio would make that pass where Dwight would rarely have to depend on the post moves we lament. That pass would be there and a drop step to a dunk would be all that's needed.. This is why entry passing is an art. Harden is great, but even Mchale realizes he needs a little rest from play making. You see what he is doing now to give him rest on the court? He is actually taking the ball out of his hands in stretches just to spell him.. Rockets need another Play Maker more than another 3 point shooter. Rubio could be that guy.
