    "What exactly did Daniels do?"

He's a defensive liability every time he's on the court. He can't guard two's and PGs are too quick for him. Hopefully he gets better in practice.

He's a better shooter than his numbers show; his lack of consistent minutes isn't allowing him to get in a groove. Regardless, he wont sniff meaningful minutes until he D's up in practice. Even Johnson (who's very good defensively) is getting minutes over him.

All due respect, but Daniels is nowhere near the value of Garcia to this team now, this year. Daniels is a prospect. We're in win-now mode, not developmental mode.

I agree that he's a young player, and that as a young player his grasp and execution of team defensive principles is poor, but I disagree on the notion that he's a bad defensive player. He was a good defender at VCU where they pretty much ran a full court press for 40 minutes a night. The defensive potential is there.

That being said, I also disagree that he isn't seeing the floor because of his defense. Well at least not in full. He is simply not a reliable ball handler nor playmaker at this stage in his career, and minutes were open to be had with the injury to Beverley, and again when Canaan went down. Priority is going to go to the vet in Terry who brings a great shooting stroke ontop of being a competent ball handler.

I just simulated another season tonight, I was playing the new xbox game "Daryl Morey's Asset Manager 2015".

For some reason Daniels has a very low asset value in this game, only 37.323934392334443 with .9 maturation percentage x 5 future years with negatives in almost every category including defense, rebounding %, turnover ratio, etc.

Morey really has this guy singled out.

Thank you Mchale for opening your eyes on DMo's role. I noticed you put in Daniels yesterday in meaningful minutes and he was on the floor during our best run. Wow it's amazing what fresh legs / floor stretcher can do on this team.

It's clear that Daniels needs to get mins to work out of this slump. The posters that keep saying Daniels "forgot how to shot" are all the same idiots who lacked vision in the DMo situation.

When the teams gets healthy Daniels needs to go to the d-league. If we acquire via trade and need a roster spot, I suspect we let him loose.

I've already traded him for a 2nd rounder which I packaged for Millsap in my season.

J.R. , I created a poll/thread after last season about the expectations for Daniels role this season. I have no clue to how search or find old threads. I you could link me that so I can look at it again, that would be much appreciated.

Last night was literally the first decent stretch of meaningful minutes for Daniels this season. Even if he had made all his previous shots this season it wouldn't have impacted even one game, but this game it mattered.

If you would ditch on a rhythm shooter because he isn't shooting 40% in garbage time after sitting for almost two hours then you'd pass up on lots of great shooters. He shows consistency offensively across games where hes played 12+ minutes. Develop him so he isn't a liability defensively in those stretches and you got a real weapon.

The important thing is Daniels shows up when it matters.

Maybe last night will restore some confidence in his shot. Once we have more bodies, I wouldn't mind sending him to RGV so that he isn't so out of rhythm if we need him back in the rotation.

I was shocked to see Daniels finally got in lol. But he plays much better with Harden in the game. Rather then him just chucking a three when it gets into his hand.

Everyone pining for Troy Daniels in this thread needs to get a clue. It's not McHale that's the moron, it's you.

What does Daniels provide that Jason Terry/Isaiah Canaan (in a two pg backcourt) do not?

The answer is absolutely nothing. Those players do everything Daniels does and much more.

Daniels hit two shots last night. He also played poor defense and gave up an easy shot 2-3 times in a row. He straight up fell down on the floor one possession while McLemore hit a wide open jump shot.

If last night was the type of six minute stretch you guys are clinging to in order to justify your lame position that Daniels needs more playing time, then I feel bad for you. He will get more minutes when he shows the ability to warrant more minutes. Until then I am perfectly fine with him riding the pine.

Especially considering the fact that McHale has done a great job developing and managing young talent such as: Dragic, Parsons, Patterson, Beverley, Jones, Motiejunas, etc..

Every sports fan loves the back-up who probably holds the keys to the season, but for some mysterious reason never gets playing time! It's a "the grass is greener on the other side" type of wishful thinking. But get over it. Daniels is not something special like you all are making him out to be. At least not at this point. Perhaps in the future when he learns how to actually play good defense and contribute more than just a 3-point shot.

No one sees the court without that. Here's a fun fact. Kyle Korver, who is a better shooter than Daniels, was one of three players that guarded Tracy McGrady during the Rockets' two play-off series against the Jazz in the late 00's. And he had a modicum of success at it too. McGrady was just on another level, but that's a different story.

Think about that. Kyle Korver, a better 3 point shooter than Daniels was trusted by Jerry Sloan (an all time great) to guard Tracy McGrady for stretches during the playoffs. Who exactly do you guys think Troy Daniels can guard? Apparently not even Ben McLemore.
