They just can't see him, he did not become this just this month he has been growing and changing for three years. these are real skills not smoke and mirrors. He never holds the ball more than 3 sec. or three dribbles he then shoots or passes, he drives down hill and can brake down the D very fluid for a 7 footer.
A better comparison would be a cross between Vlade Divac (post passing, post moves, basketball iq, court vision, and craftiness) and Detlef Schremph (post moves, floor vision, basketball iq, and jump shot if he gets his jump shot to come around).
Whatever dude. What is the incredibly simple logical outcome of every team having $22M extra cap space going to do to the market in 2016? The answer is obvious. I am very good at assessing NBA talent. You however ...
I am hoping he does well when team adjusts. If not, just the fact that he has warranted that kind of attention speaks volumes. Basically, if you underestimate him, he will burn you.
By the way, I've been ON and OFF the DMo train so many times that all the paint has worn off the seat and I'm afraid to sit down for fear of getting a splinter in my hiney. That's why I'm still standing up for this ride, so I can get back off quickly. But seriously, I do think dude has turned the corner. Don't know how great he'll become. But he's turned a corner in his career. The combination of his work on both ends of the court is a big net positive. I don't know just how good he is defensively and how much of it is scheme. What I see on the floor is a decent to good defender on a team with a defensive scheme that is digging a deep groove with our perimeter guys really knuckling down (especially Ariza). So I'm not convinced he's a great defender like some are. But I can see he is using his noggin out there defensively and is not a negative presence in the defense. And offensively he's turned into the big cog in the middle with Dwight out. In fact, I hate to say it but I think our offense is actually better with DMo in the middle and our small ball unit in the game over when Dwight is in the game. Harden, Canaan, Ariza, DMo, and KPaps is our best 5 offensive guys. Because of the ball movement and spacing. Sure hope Dwight is watching close and sees how much better he could be if he would work into the post from the pick and roll and if he would make quick decisive moves to the basket and either get up the shot or get rid of the ball to the weakside quickly. And of course, we need to get a look at Dwight and DMo together also to see if the dynamic works with Dwight. I'm pretty sure it does. In my mind, for DMo to go from good to very good borderline star/superstar he's got to get his jump shot working efficiently, especially the corner 3-ball. Right now, he's simply not good enough out there. But..he is 5 for 13 for 38% out there over his last 7 games. So....maybe the whole confidence thing is going to kick his perimeter game up a notch too. He's got decent jump shooting form. Just needs to bend the knees and get more leg in his shot and not just sling it with his arms.
Someone has this in their footer: "the best time to trade a player is when everyone thinks you would be crazy to". We might be approaching this moment with DMo.
What I still find amusing is that we are doing very well without Howard and DMO is keeping his ground and outplayed every matchup so far. With every game he does more and more. He seems like our 2nd. best offensive option and rightfully so. He shoots at hi percentage. With that being said I think Black should get some credit as well as he is contributing on a winning team as a rookie. Besides Harden seems to enjoy with these guys and the main reason for everyone playing exceptionally well is that we dont have much preasure on our shoulders. Hope to see this continues and cant wait for tonight's game )
Also, I don't know what Morey's real plan is, but it's starting to look better every day. DMo looks like a legit PF/C, Capela has shown some rebounding and shot blocking ability, NOP might be headed towards a disappointing season, Canaan is already our 2nd best creator on the team, KPap is an NBA player..... Lots of different directions we could go right now. Still want Horford....
That's because most people are idiots and would think immediately of clipping bushes in the garden when you say 'hedging'
I have been a huge D-Mo fan from the beginning (like my thread last year comparing D-Mo to Ibrahimovic). I am so happy he is doing the things we all knew he could do on a mor consistent basis. I would be great if they decide to double him. Who will they leave open, our 2 superstars? or our 2 3-point specialists:grin: If the defense focus even a little on D-mo it would make our offense so much easier when we are at full strength. Also I want either Him or Howard on the floor when we are at full strength, and at the current time I want either him or Harden on the floor, So we have atleast 1 viable offenseive option.
Not saying they won't. Valanciunas will definitely be one of the top centers in the league. But before that, he'll need to do a ton of work. Raptors really botched his bulking up process. The guy used to quite mobile for a center (obviously not DMo kind of mobile), but ever since they forced him to bulk up like 20-30 pounds over the course of few months, he has lost a ton of mobility. They almost turned him into another Euro stiff. Valanciunas will need to somehow get some of that speed back. He also really needs to work on his understanding of basketball (mainly on the defensive end), as well as his passing. Other than that, I agree that he has some really good qualities - tremendous length and knowledge how to use it, amazing touch (shoots free-throws over 80% this season), and doesn't mind banging in the paint (a real bruiser C).
True bigs are the slowest to develop in the NBA. But then the defensive rotations required of the paint protector are hideously complex. But at this point I do not expect Jonas to ever become the defensive force that D-Mo is right now. He will never have the quickness and speed necessary to get to his rotation as quickly as D-Mo, or be able to close out extremely well on the shooter beyond the arc. But that does not mean he will not become a very good NBA center. After all, center has always been the weakest position as far as available talent in the NBA. How many 6-11+ 260 pounds coordinated people are under 25 on the Earth right now? A hundred? Certainly no more than 200. It is that rare.
Dude. You've lost it. First it was 10+ million and now it's a max contract. He's had some good games. Long season. At one point Tjones was dropping 30 pts last year, and then what happened to him in the playoffs?? He's playing well. We have a lot players out and he's stepped up. But humble yourself
LOL. I will pit my knowledge and understanding of the talent evaluation and the economics of the NBA with almost anyone (except of course Bima - that man is the law). It was $10M before these last seven games. Now it has become obvious to every NBA FO that you can build an elite defense around D-Mo. And he is showing that he has one of the best post games in the NBA. Do you have any understanding of how valuable elite paint protection is in the NBA? Christ. With both Bev and Howard out the defense has not suffered one bit. A large part of the credit for that is team defense. But a close second is D-Mo. IF he keeps on playing like this he will be sporting multiple max contract offers in the summer or 2016. If he doesn't then it is back to the $10M contract offers. Basically the question is "how many truly elite paint defenders are there in the NBA that have exceptional post up games?" I am at a loss trying to come up with 5 names. I cannot think of any other than Marc Gasol. And didn't D-Mo just hold him to 8 points and 6 rebounds?
