The more interesting point is that the more "non-threatening", and passive a criminal is in resisting arrest---the more likely it is that those non-resisting black criminals will be disproportionately killed.

just means a Racist System decides who is a 'criminal' and who to let off with 'warnings', probation, deferred Adjudication, etc. These don't show up on your crime reports as boldly.

I understand, but I don't really consider it a "boring point." 39% of arrests for violent crimes are black and only 31% of justifiable homicides by police are black. I know there's not a 1-to-1 relationship between likelihood to commit violent crime and dying at the hands of police , but it's definitely difficult to see a pattern of black being overrepresented in justifiable homicides by police when comparing those numbers

As for your other point of blacks being overrepresented for justifiable homicides when not attacking. I'm sure there are factors at play such as the police racially profiling because blacks are three time more likely to commit violent crime than whites. So yes, that is unfortunate, but it's a little more complex than just saying "oh, cops should just ignore those odds." The surroundings could also be a factor if a lot of these killings occur in unsafe black neighborhoods with a lot of gang activity, where the killings of other races may occur in more neutral settings. I have no idea.

Still, all in all...you're talking about maybe ten more blacks are being killed when not attacking than should be based on the overall ratio. And that's without any context of those ten killings, nor factoring in the surrounding circumstances I mentioned above that could put police more on edge.

These numbers are not screaming to me "open season on killing black men in america."

Wow, to those that justified the police officer's actions, you might as well killed Eric Garner yourselves. If you didn't know, this is a basketball forum, where 75% of NBA athletes are not white. Fans get all riled up when referees are incompetent. However, justify a police officer killing a man. I lost a little more hope in the world.

 

What does this matter? If it is all about equality, who cares about minority/majority?

We really need to do something to fix the disproportionately low number of non-black players in the NBA, this kind of obvious racism shouldn't exist in 2014. I'm glad this was brought to our attention.

Not just that, but how many Asian or Indian players are there in the NBA? Asians and Indians make up more than half the population of the world, but they only allow a token few in the racist NBA and you're right, no one cares. It's sad to see them so disproportionately represented.
