That is just awful. I hope for a complete recovery, and to see him making a successful comeback on the court when he is ready to play.
This video exemplifies very well how there are other things to coaching besides "X's and O's." McHale can say to a guy like Harden "You're doing OK, but you need to take your game to the next level" and actually have some credibility, and be able to explain to Harden or Howard what that next level will be.
Man.. Upon first listen, I could have sworn McHale said that Harden has "got a unbelievable boner" @ 11:17
haha what's with mchale touching and scratching the table when other people are talking and asking him questions?
Agreed. I imagine most people would like to see Red Nation Roundtable continue. Hell, even users of the name McFail had to enjoy a candid conversation like this. I'd like to see Bev interview bomb this show sometime.
It's too hard for him to admit that Dunn has made a difference. Nice to hear him taking about Bickerstaff's contribution, and Llull.
At this point, I hope he can have a full recovery in terms of quality of life. Then basketball comes next. This nerve thing is scary.
I think the hate for McHale really has nothing to do with him as a coach. Other than playoffs last year, there's really nowhere that you can just say he's not performed up to expectations. In fact, 2 years ago in Harden's first year, I felt that was a great coaching performance to fit all those young players together and dealing with Morey trading away 2 rotation players at the deadline. The year before the Rockets were an average team with an average record, even if the end-season fail was depressing. Last year's Portland series though, I don't want to think about it. I really like that McHale is coaching well this year. He's probably gone after this season regardless, due to his age and contract situation. I think there's good chance he gets bumped up to the front office and kind of just be in an ancillary role.
I doubt very seriously McHale is gone. If so it is because he wanted to retire. Is there a better possible coach for the Rockets right now than McHale? I do not think so. And the contract situation? Les will pay whatever it takes. McHale has done an absolutely brilliant job this season. I cannot find any fault in his coaching this season. 6-2 without Jones, Howard and Bev? That is insane. And his taking over the defense was brilliantly executed.
I'm really feeling like this is a special year, or at least, a really good roll is beginning. I think pretty much everyone is going to be inclined to keep it rolling, including Morey and McHale. This team sometimes is beautiful.
Excellent stuff! I hope they continue producing these regularly, it will be interesting to hear what McHale has to say as the season progresses. One thing that jumped out to me was the comments about coaching veteran vs. young guys. Is that the true difference between previous years and this year? Coachability? We have talked a ton about how some of our former Rockets had agendas and things to prove. What we are seeing in Dallas and LA (maybe even NO) only reiterates that point. Of all our guys this year, I would honestly say only DMo and Canaan have a chip on their shoulder, but they have been able to channel that energy into positive production without costing the team. We are finally becoming a team!
I think adding Ariza and Terry has had a huge impact on the team culture. Both are players who have contributed heavily to a Championship team, especially Terry. I suspect Terry is one of the few people who can tell Harden and Dwight what to do on and off the court and have them listen.
