Ducks have always been a favorite animal of mine. I knwo people hunt them and that is just the way it is but I still feel bad when I see ten ducks what have been shot tied together with a twist tie. I am not hating on the guy that hunted them... I just feel bad for them.
In Genesis is clearly states that man shall reign over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, and every living creature that inherits the earth. That's why I don't feel bad.
You can find this book at oshmans or whatever the new name of that store is... http://www.amazon.com/Family-Fishing-Holes-Hundred-Downtown/dp/0962858110

Whenever any of my family or friends hunts anything they eat what they kill, including ducks. Nobody I know varmint or trophy hunts.
Bumping for updates from anybody who knows some good urban freshwater fishing spots, whether it's neighborhood ponds, small lakes, etc.
I've caught some big fat mouths in Lake Conroe. Catfish are anywhere there is water. Depends what kind of fish you are looking for!
You can find Largemouth in any major bayou. If you go to "Neighborhood Fishing" on the TPWD website, you can find a huge list of stocked ponds in the area. Fish there, and you'll probably find some Bass, Cats ,Crappie, or Rainbow Trout (during the cold months). Also, download "Fishing Skout" from the app store. It's basically and Instagram for fishermen, but people post a lot of information there that you could use, if they decide to share it.
I'm thinking of getting a day fishing charter for me and the old man for Christmas. Anyone been on one out of Galveston area that you'd recommend?
I've never personally been, so I can't offer any 1st hand expereince, but from what I've heard and seen, the big charters are a no go. They stuff 50 people on a small ferry boat and drive you out. Everyone is shoulder to should. Granted they are catching fish, it's not exactly in the spirit of fishing to be that tight. I would recommend doing some research for a private charter on, with maybe you, your dad, and a handful of other people (could be strangers that decided to book on the same time as you, doesn't matter). You'll get more attention and it'll be a less cramped space. Also, unless you plan on going deep sea fishing, remember that there's no guarantee of catching anything! I'd also be sure to find a Captain with good reviews, who's willing to take you to his honey holes. But once again, this is just from my knowledge. I haven't had any 1st hand experience.
