I need a tonneau cover and there's hundreds to choose from, so even though I've been looking for a while I'm still relatively clueless. 4 important things: Must be water proof when closed - I don't want any water getting in the bed when it rains and I have the cover on. Must be easily removable - as in, take off the entire thing in ~60 seconds by myself without tools. Must not take up any room in the bed - I have a short truck bed (5'2") so I would prefer it to not take up any room when opened. It should roll up (if soft) or fold back (if hard) against the rear window. Must be relatively secure - I know that anyone with the right tools and know-how can get into a truck bed if they really wanted to, but I'd still like it to be relatively secure. So far I've found the Extang Encore and the Leer Trilogy seem to fit this criteria, but I haven't heard any testimony from people who have owned them and I don't know for sure that they keep out water. FYI - I also plan on having a small bike rack and a bed extender in the bed at most times. I might have to remove the cover to use either, but I'd like to keep everything in the bed and then just remove the tonneau cover if I need to. Also - I am not very handy so unless it's simple (by non-handyman standards) I'm looking to get it installed at a shop.
I really want a Bakflip or a Roll-n-Lock. I just don't want to spend that much for it. But they're def the best that I've seen.
What kind of truck is it? you may want to look on summitracing.com. They usually have a huge selection.
Not sure it meets all your criteria, but I got the Bakflip F1 over 4 years ago and it works great. I think it was close to $1,000.
It's a '15 Colorado, short box. I know of a lot of places with a big selection (AutoAnything has tons), but I was wondering if someone could give personal recommendations for a product or give me more info on the two covers I said I was considering.
BUMP Bumping this thread with Comic Sans to give it another try. Anyone else have any suggestions? I might have to go with a hard top because I think a lot of those folding tonneau covers aren't compatible with a truck bed extender.
Can't you just remove the bed extender until you need it? I know that mine was just in the way more times then not, so I just took it out and put it in as needed. And would you be opposed to a retractable cover?
