I guess they're the ones that wouldn't allow my xbox to connect last night.

Just to be clear, I don't think it was fully down at any point. I didn't have any issues at all playing Destiny, or logging on, using Netflix etc. My friends list just wasn't working until about 10PM. Friends had the same issue.

They didn't "hack" ****. It was a standard DDOS attack.

Soooo, I have to admit something.

I downloaded The Crew last night. My cousin hit me up at 10:30 pm asking if I want to game share with him. For $30, I figured why not. Ended up downloading it and playing at 11:30 pm. I played for about an hour.

My initial impressions...the handling of the car you start with really sucks. It felt like I was driving a boat around. However, once you get a car and start upgrading it, the game handles and feels MUCH better.

The map and the world you are in is amazing. It's crazy just driving around and having the streets filled with actual gamers.

The story line seemed decent, although I didnt get into it much. There are also challenges scattered all through the streets that allow you to get points to level up. The free roam was the most fun for me, just exploring the city and checking out how insanely large the map is.

I think this game gets a lot better when more users are in the streets or if you have a Crew to roll with.

As of now, I probably give it around an 8 overall. Im hoping that my car continues improving in handling as I keep leveling it up. The graphics overall leave a little to be desired. The cut scenes look great, but the in-game graphics look a step up from 360, but a step down from what I'd expect from this generation. However, given the depth of the world, I think it's a good trade off.

Reminds me a bit of Burnout Paradise. I'd obviously have to play many more hours to figure it out, but if it's anything like that game, then it has "fun" written all over it. We'll see....I'll probably still get Forza Horizon, specially since I'll be game sharing that one too.

EDIT By the way, the launch went very smoothly, so some props to Ubisoft. I guess when the bar is low, anything is seen as a positive, but there were no issues at launch. Might change though, as more people start playing.

They're never going to have "server" issues in the strictest sense. It's like you said; the launch was smooth because there's no one on the servers. Anyway, glad you like it.

The driving around is fun for now bc it's new... We'll see how it plays out once that part gets boring. Hopefully there will be enough substance to keep things fun.

It's open world; the combat is very similar to the Batman/Arkham games. I bought it since it was so cheap as well, it's very fun.

That's weird. 2K15 should be able to be played offline.
MyGM, MyLeague, MyCareer all have offline variants.

I've put in about 8 hours of time into The Crew. It makes sense now why Ubisoft didn't send copies of the game to reviewers...you need an online population to get the most out of the game. I reached a point in the game tonight where I can stray from the campaign missions and enter into the multiplayer aspects of the game. You definitely need lots of people online to experience this portion of the game. Without it, you lose out on some great times.

There has never been a racing game with as much content and things to do...In a map that is larger than multiple games put together. It's not a flawless game, far from that, but can easily be put up there as one of the top games of the year. This can easily be a 200+ hour game. Interested to see what the reviewers say about it.

Not a high profile reviewer, but I caught his Crew review yesterday, and I happened to like his style (more or less agreed with what he was saying on other reviews). He seemed to like some parts of the game, but as I figured, it sounds like a game that maybe needed another 6-9 months of polish. With that, it might have been pretty awesome.

I vaguely recall seeing a Eurogamer pre-review, and I want to say it implied similar things (some enjoyment combined with frustration due to technical issues).

I got an xbox one on black friday. I'm having problems with my controller not starting my xbox and not connecting once my xbox comes out of sleep. I have to reboot the xbox by holding the xbox button down for 8 seconds and powering it up before my controller will connect. Does anyone else have that problem.

That review is actually pretty unnecessarily dramatic. I disagree with a lot of what he says. For instance, he has a major gripe with the RPG elements of the game where you start with a crappy car and level it up for it to get better. I knew that going into the game and from the Beta that that's how the game works...and it makes total sense when you understand the game. I even mentioned that portion of the game in this thread before release...yet, this guy is acting shocked by it. Other things like his mention of the map. He said something along the lines of controlling it is so difficult that you have a 50/50 chance of actually clicking what you want to click on the map. Yeah, that is true, if you are r****ded or have one paralyzed hand. The map is the best part of the game.

He makes some correct points, like some of the missions not being good....but again, wake me up when the purpose of a racing game is to get Uncharted story lines.

As far as the multiplayer...like I mentioned in my previous post, you need people playing this game to maximize its capability and exactly why reviewers need to remember this fact. My biggest issues with the game have been a few times where I've had to wait for people to join my race...up to 10 min. Just need more people playing.

Graphics...given the vastness of the world, it would be silly to expect graphics like Forza...which is exactly what this guy expects. A tree popping in from 400 yards away is so nit picky.

Seems like most people are forgetting about having fun in a game because they're too busy assessing whether or not they like the voice acting from a random character in the game.

I'm not going to debate about the finer parts about the game, partly since I don't have the game and partly because I don't really care. Nevertheless, his overall takeaway seems find to me. There is definitely a lack of polish for this game (with visuals, networking code, gameplay, etc.). People will have different opinions about things, but this does seem to be a pretty typical "wait for sale" game. Some great parts mixed with some not-so-great/unfinished parts. Given that the game will probably be on sale soon, I think it's actually an even better takeaway for the game.

FYI, that guy nitpicks on purpose, which is partly why I like his reviews. Some people don't like it, but it is a good way to review games IMO.
