    WTF!!!

It is a bit different in that the officer was off duty when the incident happens. But still... To know that nut job was an officer of the law....

Who would want to be a cop in today's America? Seriously. There are a lot of jobs I would do for that money before I would do *that* job.

    So we mix together:
    1. A few very noble, selfless people who want to serve their communities. (Yea!)
    2. Probably more than a few people who couldn't find many other options for full-time employment. (Hmmm.)
    3. A few people who really get off on power. (Uh-oh).

The proportions of those three types will vary from place to place, but who else could it possibly be?

It's not a good career. ****ty pay, ****ty hours, angry, dangerous people, high emotional content, unhealthy lifestyle... should I go on? But we tell these people, "here's you uniform and your gun. you go keep the peace now. handle domestic assault, armed robbery, murder, mentally ill people on the streets, angry kids who hate your very uniform, etc. You'll do just fine! Make sure to make really good decisions when your heart is pounding 120 bpm and you're jacked on adrenaline too, okay?"

Who do you think your local police force is?

I haven't tried to. Not sure if it's hangout or DD. Will let someone else decide. I was going to put it in the hangout since it's local.

Yes. I actually do know who they are. :)

One of my good friends is a police officer in CA. He takes a lot of **** from his peers about how seriously he takes his role as a "social worker." He gets teased a lot for being a liberal hippie, etc. Anyway, he has told me that a lot of his peers have an adversarial outlook on the communities they serve. A very us vs. them outlook. And I do know some of the guys you described. Some made it as officers, one -- praise the sun -- failed at the task and left the academy.

I am well informed as to the low pay and ****tiness of the job. I am also very aware of the problems some municipalities face when recruiting officers who come from or at least understand the communities they will be policing. You combine that cultural mismatch with the other factors and, well, we already know....

Back to the topic....I'm still curious why the cop wasn't indicted on something.

Its because he didnt do anything wrong, the criminal needed to be restrained. Biggie was arrested 31 time prior, the cops knew he wasnt going to go without a fight.

The only thing I would have indicted him on was those crappy clothes. Cops should dress better when they are being videotapped

Although I generally agree with the comments in the article but have you seen the video? The guy was clearly subdued and was no physical threat to anyone. They could have easily cuffed him with out the choke hold. IMO that cop used excessive and unecessary force which led to a mans death.

I don't get all the crap on why people are protesting and why Obama is even weighing in on Ferguson. I basically agree with Barkley when it comes to Ferguson. I think it's this case that should be getting more national spotlight. The cop should have been charged with manslaughter in this case.

There was no reason to hold him in that choke hold so long -- they had control of him long before he was strangulated. The officer should be charged with manslaughter -- he didn't mean to kill the man, but holding that choke so long with the guy screaming 'I can't breathe' resulted in a homicide.
