I would agree that a certain segment of the population thinks that they are being mistreated, I think the problem is that they really aren't being mistreated but that mentality leads to problems.

A large portion of those thinking that they are mistreated are poor, and it's no coincidence. Historically people LOVE to have someone else to blame for their problems so they don't have to take full blame themselves. If they can think that the only reason they are poor or have to struggle is because "the man" is out to get them or because cops are out to get them then it's no longer their fault right?

Tie this in with a subculture that glorifies criminals and you have a perfect storm. When you are a criminal, the cops ARE actually out to get you so when your role models and heroes are criminals and they have a problem with police, it's not all that much of a stretch to think that you have a problem with police.

In Furguson, you had a criminal attack a cop and the cop shot him for it and then the community decided that the criminal represented them. It's pretty sad actually.

The problem won't go away until the counterculture that glorifies and identifies with criminals goes away. When I was in Basic for the Army we had what they called an Equal Opportunity day in which they segregated the company and treated the white Privates better than normal and treated the minority Privates MUCH worse than normal. They did this to show what actual racism and discrimination looks like so that there would be no false accusations thrown around. They did this because inevitably some minority would make a BS claim that he was being mistreated because of his race just about every cycle. We didn't have any.

The race card is a crutch that is still being used long after it is relevant and it's crippling people. The belief that people are out to get you, or that you can't get ahead because of your race or whatever is poisonous. It's just not the case anymore.

Now that doesn't mean that there isn't still racism or that some people aren't assholes, but it's just not the barrier that it once was. It's time for people to take responsibility for themselves. When we live in a world where a black man can get accepted to every single Ivy league school on the basis of his merits, there's no excuses anymore. If you are exceptional, you'll thrive, if you are scummy and accept a life of being a criminal, you won't. Simple as that.

Dude, I said "not too many" of those businesses are black owned _ and in communities like that they hardly ever are.

Bobby, thanks for the straightforward response. I'm not going to try to rebut now because I can see such a huge gulf between us. It makes me tired thinking of how far we'd have to backup to find common ground. I think there is a subculture mentality in some quadrants that isn't helping things. But, to say its entirely on black people generally for crippling themselves in society isn't close to enough of the whole picture.

Here is where the real heart of the issue lies.

I have seen many times one opinion being that the failings of the black community rests 100% on anything except personal responsibility.

On the other end I have seen this idea that being black, poor, minority or any other group plays 0% in the current state of the black community.

The truth is far more complicated.... however the media caters to simple solutions, be it FOX or CNN and as a result you have two groups of people with polar opposite opinions screaming at each other and not having any empathy for the other.

I was just a Private, but I joined when I was a bit older so I could kind of see what was going on and I just stayed quiet and waited for it to be over. It was pretty ridiculous because our company commander was a Puerto Rican woman and she was involved. A lot of people got really really upset about it because they didn't tell us what they were doing till afterwards.

I did enjoy the extra minute to eat though.

Can we stop using the term "race relation" and use "black-white relation" instead?

Nobody else is rioting and the media doesn't care about anything besides white on black crime anyway. So why make it a "race" issue when it's specifically a white vs black issue?

Because a lot of whites are pretty ****ing appalled about Ferguson on grounds other than "they smashed up that Pakistani guys store".

On the other side, you'll generally find the same clowns like Scabby the Great doing amateur performance art about tyrant Obama opening our borders to illegal Mexican isis peeps.

So it's really not blacks v whites, it's a subset of whites who are turdburgers about many things against everybody else.

Do you live in Texas? I can understand how you might have a distorted picture of how whiteys think. The surprise when governor oops who rules the state couldn't get past a forgiving audience of like minded reactionaries in Iowa a few years ago was illuminating

500k for all the damaged businesses? That's a drop in the bucket, but it beats nothing I guess.

Is this a 4chan post? Idk I saw it as a screenshot on a different forum, anyways it was quite satirical, kinda ****ed up, but funny about how we portray things nowadays.

    NSFW for language

PBS lied to you with their chart on witness statements. Corrected here (spoilered for size):

No. Just because we don't have hispanic communities or Vietnamese communities or whatever protesting at the moment doesn't mean they don't have similar problems. If you put the blinders on and say this is just a black thing, you can misdiagnose the problem and fail at a solution.

This is f***ing impossible to read.

The moral of this seems to be "eye witness testimony isn't worth crap".

This is the best graphical representation I've found of the incident.

Actually it's spoilered because it's a crime against Edward Tufte, what a disaster.
