no need for bodily fluids in this basketball discussion. let's try to at least be semi-creative with our metaphors, for CFs sake
What exactly do you think they do at an NBA practice? This isn't high school football. Do you think development as a basketball player just comes from playing games? If that's the case, the rec center should be pumping out some of the best players in the world. NBA coaching, learning schemes, learning their sets on both ends, footwork & other skills training, working with actual NBA players/seeing their habits, and having his mistakes corrected ON THE SPOT by the coaches makes a difference. Obviously getting PT in a real live game down in the D-League helps put those things into practice, but you need to take advantage of the true NBA practice time when its available. Sacrificing a couple games here and there to get real practice is well worth it (and he's only missing ONE game if he gets reassigned before the weekend). And actually too much D-League basketball can actually develop poor habits as the gameplay and talent discrepancy can create false pretenses about what you can and can't get away with in the NBA. He's only really going to miss one game on Thursday & will probably be back for the saturday game when the Rockets leave for Minnesota. Give me 3 days of practices(& probably some training on game day) & some time on the bench to watch what they worked on vs. missing one RGV game?? Come on dude. The Rockets do this with every rookie every year, and regardless people always b**** and complain about it. "Uhh... back to the D-League again?.. Dude must suck. What a bust" "Called up...to do what, sit the bench?" "X player called up... oh s$%#, someone is getting traded!!" Its the same crap every year. There are good reasons why they recall and re-assign constantly in the first half of their first season. Practice matters just as much as gameplay, but you need both.
I wouldn't be too sure of that his last few sessions in Euroleague he only hit 47.6%, 58.2%, and 43.8% from the FT line.
Guys... Capela isn't getting called up to play. He's here to take advantage of the practice time. Yes, he's insurance, but Black and Dorsey aren't getting benched for him just yet. Please don't start the whole "Why isn't Capela playing instead of Dorsey nonsense tomorrow night". Its not going to happen yet. He's not going to play right away so just set your expectations accurately.
Ask tinman whether TMac was healthy when we traded him? Dwight Howard, Bynum, and Al Harrington were all traded in the same 4-team deal and all were injured at the time. So, maybe you can trade injured players for injured players
Would you kindly stop posting the most obnoxious eternally replaying video of all time? That thing truly sucks.
Its Kevin McHale we are talking about. He probably doesn't trust that Capela can deliver those fouls correctly. Seriously though. I'd tell folks to not anticipate Capela getting any PT unless a blowout occurs. McHale isn't going to use 4 different Centers, and Dorsey has actually been player better as of lately (knock on wood). This happens every year with every rookie. Look for his opportunity to come more around February. Very few Rockets rookies haven't eventually gotten PT in the second half of the season and its clear to see that the D-League time paid dividends to them understanding where to be, what to do, and being in rhythm with ample time leading up with D-League play.
It's because of those weird angled free throw lines. He's clearly got his free throw game correct now with parallel lines.
Yeah, sorry about that. I was just a little high after watching the blocks and the dunk over a guard. He didn't even really jump.. just reached over. Well, never say never.
I think every post you've had on this page is spot on. He's here to take advantage of being with the team for practice time because we've had a few days to practice. It's nothing more than that. Also I agree on Dorsey. He actually has had a decent 2 out of the 3 last games. He had what like 3 blocks against Milwaukee? I was surprised. This might be homerish of me, but it's possible Dorsey might have still been feeling the effects of his injury. We don't really know. And he did not have the same chance to become acclimated with the team due to missing training camp and most of preseason so that weighed him down also. There is a minuscule amount of hope he can at least be useful sometimes when absolutely necessary. He does not look as bad as earlier this season, even though his conditioning is obviously still not there.
