First opinion was his own. "I'm not sure if I feel like playing".

Yeah well when your knee is swelling up and hurts like hell, that'll happen. I'm just curious of he's recently gotten bad news and that's why he's looking for a 2nd opinion. Like maybe he has to have a second surgery because the first one failed.

That's very unlikely in that this was his first ever knee injury. Guys like Greg Oden had numerous injuries at a young age, that's not the case with Clowney and there's nothing to suggest that he would have a problem with arthritis this early in his career given the information at hand.

i'm officially beginning to get scared about clowney now. I hope this doesn't turn out like the colts pick in the early 90s, steve emtman. his rookie common cards were worth $1 on the beckett mags i used to subscribe to, unheard of for a defensive player.
then, in the middle of the season, he suffered a knee injury and was no longer the same.
looking back, I don't think steve was a bust but more of a recipient of unfortunate events.

i know. cool dorky retro story, bro.

information from official streams is basically irrelevant at this point. Houston Texans are notoriously secretive. Huge warning signs with him not playing and going to see Anderson.

If they did a meniscectomy, there's little to no chance it failed. Could be an infection, or missed ligament issue, such as ACL. Doubt it though, as that shouldn't cause swelling or a ton of pain, at this point.

Also, second opinion is likely used as a term of speech, meaning that he already had his surgery, and they want Andrews to look at it and see if anything else is going on.

That's fair but what I really mean is that he didn't have any knee injuries in high school or college, usually when you see someone develop a problem with arthritis at an early age it's because they struggled with injuries at an early age. For example, we'd know if he had a hip replacement in middle school like Greg Oden which made one leg shorter than the other leading to knee problems.

    Pretty much.

Does anyone remember the LNIII story that unfolded during the offseason? Was just some sort of misinformation followed by more misinformation followed by he's off limits to the media followed by he's IRed. We all remember the Yao dog and pony show a few years back to make sure season ticket holders renewed. I get some folks that don't want to see the smoke but it's there and it's black (not just here but some media folk as well).

Fingers crossed by I'd expect Mercilus and Reed to be around a wee bit longer than we thought.

With Nix though we knew about his knee problems since the combine, it was the reason he dropped like he did. No one should have really been expecting much from him this season given the reports out of the combine that he basically had no knees. Yao is another situation that we should have pretty much realized he'd never be healthy after his first injury given the type of injury it was and his ridiculous size.

The situation with Clowney really is different than those other situations in that he never had a knee injury before.

    Article from January 2013...

Clowney led the SEC in sacks with 13 despite knee and foot injuries in the second half of the Gamecocks' season, and he also set school marks for tackles for loss (21.5) and sacks in a single game (4.5 against Clemson).

Yeah but it wasn't anything serious in that it was nothing that required surgery. I don't really count just getting banged up a bit. He had no ligament tears he had no dislocations or anything like that. Sore knees happen to everyone.

You don't have to have surgery for it to become arthritic, though. He's had knee issues of some sort or another each of the last 3 years.
