The Rockets are still 13-4, and 48 wins should get you into the playoffs. That leaves 65 games and the Rockets only need to go 35-30 to reach 48 wins. Hell the Rockets are only 2 losses from having the best record in the NBA. The Thunder are 5-12, they have to go 43-22 just to reach 48 wins and that is assuming they stay healthy. Nothing is certain in the NBA.

Setting the bar at 48 seems reasonable to me. You have to look at the 9-12 teams this year are much improving than last year. Suns are still doing decent, NOP is much improved, Nuggets are playing much better of late, even the Jazz had shown some new hopes in early season. Its reasonable to think the bottom western playoff teams to lose one extra game to these teams than last year.

There are a big bunch of bubble teams this year. Kings, Pelicans, Suns, Nuggets, and you throw in the Thunder in the mix, it's a dog fight for the #8 seed. And the seeding in the top 7 is wide open.
I agree with other poster, we need to shoot for 50. There are 4 teams in this division alone that may all make the playoffs. The bloodbath hasnt started. There are only so many eastern conference teams we can play. I expect that there will be a gauntlet for all playoff teams in the west.
I disagree, we have plenty of depth the problem is we have 60% of our starters injured, our depth is starting. DD
I use to think that but I'm not so sure about that anymore. If you have canaan terry and papa out there with dmo you have more than enough ball handling.
Every top teams in the west is one major injury away to be in the bubble. That list includes : - CP3 missing 20 games - Parker/Duncun missing 20 games - Curry missing 20 games - Harden/Howard missing 20 games - Dirk missing 20 games - Gasol / Conney missing 20 games - Dame / LA missing 20 games The margin is very little and this game is all about the stars.
canaan can create for himself but not that great for others. we've seen these lineups already and they're a liability.
If Morey thinks that Canaan can be the 2nd guy on the perimeter on a championship team than we are screwed this year. Seems like the intention is to develop the bench this year and go for a Bosh like swing (and likely strikeout) again.
