I agree with this. The Rockets need to play more 2-PG sets when Harden's not on the floor. Especially when Howard comes back and we can afford to give up on some defense on the perimeter.

Canaan's always been known as a shooter, and he's certainly delivering. What really got me excited was when a poster pointed out that he actually gets in the paint and gets to the line. I haven't really seen that much this year. Do you think he's going to be able to get in the paint and get to the line at this level?

He can get to the rim, but he's also small so he also gets stuffed a bit more than others.

Apparently he gets blocked 20% of the time in close  (per 82games.com)

Nick Johnson is the worst (100% blocked in close  ), but small sample size.
Motie and Dorsey are at 17%.

Terry is the best, never been stuffed in close, but of players who go inside more frequently, Jones is our best at avoiding the shot block.

In terms of FG% in close (which might be a better measure? Who cares if you get stuffed - a miss is just as bad):

    Jones 73.9%
    Howard 67.1%
    Garcia 66.7%
    Motie 61.1%
    Black 60.7%
    Ariza 59%
    Harden 58.7%
    Beverley 57.1%
    Canaan 56%
    Terry 50%
    Papa 41.7%
    Dorsey 37.5% (LOL)
    Johnson 0%

I couldn't think of who was a 'good finisher' inside as a PG - so I looked up Kyle Lowry, he is at 57% for his career.

He's being used mostly off the ball at this point. If they ever get around to running him on the ball from the top he'll collect fouls and free throws at almost a Hardenesque rate. He knows how to draw the contact and get the whistle. And he finishes better than most. Extrapolating that he is a poor finisher based on a handful of finishes early this season is flawed without considering what he did in the dleague and college. Give him minutes and he'll finish and draw a load of fouls.

McHale better make Cannan Beverley's backup. If he continues to have Terry backup Bev, then im gonna be beyond pissed.

Once all the guys come back, our rotation should look like this.
    Beverley/Canaan
    Harden/Terry
    Ariza/K-Papa
    Jones/D-Mo
    Dwight/Black

I hope we also get a servicable backup center. Black can only rebound. Other than that, he can't score for jack and fouls like a tard. Dorsey is 1,000,000x worse.

Chris Paul playing mind games with the youngster. Hopefully, Canaan doesn't read this before the game.

Nothing personal, but do you realize how good Aaron Brooks was before the injury?

..and I've long thought Canaan to be loaded with talent....DanaBarrosesque....

AB could take over games...not just any games...playoff games....

AB was good, I'd have to say AB was miles better as a playmaker.
But shooting wise they are pretty comparable and Canaan is probably a better finisher inside if there is contact, AB was very good skirting around the defense and making crazy ass layups, but any bit of contact means the shot is not going in.

Sure, if he's being guarded by the likes of Derek Fisher and Steve Blake? Guess what? Canaan could kill it in the playoffs if he were also guarded by those guys.

Some guys won't get it until it smacks them in the face. Chris Paul has been complimentary of Isaiah Canaan since before he ever stepped foot on an NBA court. But what does he know anyways? Canaan can't possibly be good because some Yayhoo poster here hasn't given him the official seal of approval.

Yes, I quite vividly recall. I was there in the playoffs in 09. I remember.

But this post sums up some of what I would say:

And as an aside I think Canaan will actually end up a better play maker than Brooks. Brooks (after the Ginobli injury) was never the same and his size caught up to him after his speed declined.

I think Canaan is actually as fast as prime Brooks. Has the same stroke. Buthe is simply physically bigger and more athletic, which accounts for quite a bit in the NBA.

You mean like Mcfail? Cause last time I checked cannon's ass is glued squarely to the bench when Bev is healthy.
