The world is full of many stupid people, discussion can not solve the problem. This country has lots of problems, which is too bad for one of the top rich-countries in the world.
Exactly. Stop seeing the world as binary. Plenty of liberals do not see the reasons for defending the actions of this young man.
And I will add to that this question to ask yourself: Do criminal gangs use 12 year olds? Yes, they do. And a 12 year old gangbanger with a gun is no less dangerous than an 18 year old gangbanger with a gun.
I think the caller said the gun was fake before the kid was even shot. if a regular bystander can tell that the gun was fake, the police-officer should as well, don't you agree? Again I'm not 100% sure about the caller thing.
The country is nominally not at war and 12 year olds get shot for waving toy guns. SMH. I just don't know what it would take for people to reevaluate the increasing aggression and over-policing that is happening. Hysterically, a lot of small government people have aligned themselves right up with agents of the state who are killing people. Mind-boggling.
dude---chill. There is a fundamental issue at stake here. I'm not questioning intent. I'm questioning outcome. I don't think you or anybody are terrible people---in fact, my specific reference was to a systematic failure, not an individual one. If you're unable to debate without spurting out personal insults, I think that's a sign that this isn't worth pursuing. But open your mind to what can be improved, policy-wise, to avoid situations like this in the future. Don't just assume that people have to die. It doesn't have to be this way.
From what I understand the dispatcher failed to communicate that rather important tidbit to the responding officer. Something that dispatcher, the cop, and the family will have to live with for the rest of their lives. I am not convinced that is an accurate report, though. I find it hard to believe that 1) someone would call the cops about a child with a fake gun if the caller knew it to be fake, and 2) the police would actually dispatch to respond to a child with what is reported to be a toy gun...
You don't need to defend the actions of Michael brown to see that our current police system has serious problems with accountability, use of deadly force, violating civil rights, etc....
Nope, not gonna chill when you come in here spewing your garbage and pointedly avoid discussing the topic at hand. Why should I? I will always call you out on your BS, you should know that by now. If you are so dumb and naive as to believe that we can have a world where nobody dies if we can just edumacate them hick whitey cops to be more culturally sensitive and leave their guns in the armory, then there's not much to discuss. You say you are concerned with outcomes, but you refuse to discuss what actually caused this outcome - Brown's behavior - and I am supposed to take you seriously? Nope, you don't get away with that.
Even if the bystander told the police that the gun was fake, would you risk your life on the bystander's word? Put yourself in the cop's shoes. If you would take a bullet, you have balls.

Casue and effect homie. when one event causes another to happen. the casue is why it happen, the effect is what happens. I blame swisha sweet giving him the urge to steal.

This outcome was caused by a number of factors. Critically, one of them is the over-militarization of police, a trend that has led to the deaths of 5,000 since 9/11. If you want to crow about the fact that this one instance death could not have been avoided with non-lethal weaponry (doubtful), that's fine, but you don't get away with scoring "winner points" without me stretching the boundaries of what you're comfortable discussing. If that makes you get personal, so be it, but I got no beef with you. I've tried to be civil---and I don't much care if you aren't. but the conversation would be more productive if you were
So, are you threatening us now? You gonna riot the next time a black man attacks a cop and gets himself killed?
No. This outcome was caused because Mr. Brown and his buddy committed a robbery and then attacked a police officer and tried to take his firearm when he was confronted. THAT is why it happened. There is no confusion about this, only your refusal to admit that this is the core cause. This didn't have JACK to do with the militarization of the police, Officer Wilson was not militarized and was carrying a .40 cal handgun at the time. This is *ENTIRELY* the result of Mr. Brown's poor decision making, something for which you appear to absolve him. If you are incapable of admitting that as the cause of this episode, then there truly is nothing to discuss. Which, there probably isn't.
Dunno if addressed to me, though it seems like it--- ideally yes. Of course, given how prevalent guns are in America (a discussion for another day) that ideally has to be heavily caveated. I understand that isn't happening for a number of reasons, but the fact that there was no non-lethal option or training to consider such or an institutional attempt to have that discussion concerns me. I'm hoping the President builds on his previous work in the area. I also think there are larger issues with policing beyond just force or no force.
