Get out of here with those facts. This is a fire the coach thread, there is no room for facts and logic - just hate.
Your response didn't even remotely come close to answering my question. You just posted some stats with no context. Could there be another reason for these numbers other than just "in game coaching is useless!" Like I said previously, what about substitution patterns, resting players properly, not exploiting matchups? This is all "in game coaching", and nobody can argue that isn't important in winning basketball games. It seems you think "in game coaching" is just calling plays in timeouts. Ridiculous oversimplification you're making to defense McHale.
Also jtr you didn't acknowledge that Morey was clearly unhappy with McHale after the Blazers' series. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=253443
The single issue that post addressed was to answer the question of how do I know that calling timeouts in games actually is detrimental to the offense. As far as "substitution patterns, resting players properly, not exploiting matchups? " I have to ask is any fan knowledgeable enough to seriously critique an NBA coaching staff? The coaching staff has more information and knowledge of their roster than everyone in the world combined. And that includes other NBA coaching staffs. Just because you think McHale is not properly resting a player does not make it likely you are right. And what is more you cannot even begin to put together a cogent argument supporting your opinion. Because you do not have the necessary information to make that argument, and never ever will. I do find it interesting that after 2 years of futile arguing that the Rockets do not and should not be calling plays, there is that great Grantland piece, with Carlisle quoted saying "we try not to call plays".
Harden is a real superstar that masks a lot of deficiencies. That's why I wasn't large on K Love in minny he didn't will a bad team to wins, Harden is doing that as we speak imo. And McHale owes him bigtime.
Again, there is more to "in game" coaching than calling timeouts. I'm not even specifically referring to McHale here. Substitution patters, resting players properly, and exploiting matchups are part of in game coaching, and yet you just claimed this is all useless and doesn't impact winning and losing games. Clearly, that is not accurate and brings to question what you know about in game coaching.
I never said they were useless, I just stated that fans do not have the knowledge, ability or understanding to evaluate coaching performance as far as substitution patterns, resting players properly, and exploiting match ups. What we can (sort of) evaluate a coaching staff for - Do the players seem happy and content? Do the offensive and defensive systems make sense? Do players who are performing well get PT? Are the young players developing well? When thrown into serious adversity (like three starters out) does the team and coaching staff respond in a positive way? Fans do not have access to practice, team analytics, staff reports on player health, coaching staff and team meetings, etc. That lack of knowledge severely hamstrings many analyses that people would love to run.
What? It's always lovely to have somebody ask you to disprove their claims. It's really simple, you claim it to be true, show undeniable proof of Morey being quoted making those statements.
The mouthbreathing is strong in this thread. An 11-3 start using 7 different starting lineups due to injuries and some of you morons are calling for the coach's head? Typical.
Google "Russell's teapot" You can't just make a claim and declare it's true because no one has proven it wrong yet. That's not how it works.
Because cyberx is a lot more credible than anyone else on this thread who's trying to refute him? Maybe those who are claiming cyberx is full of it should also Google "Russell's teapot"
I am a high priest of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (http://www.venganza.org). I would very much appreciate it if you guys would stop acting like 11-3 is all good, acknowledge Pastafarianism and the one true god. Sincerely, Michael Jordan Shout out to my man Trevor Ariza, former Wizard:
It doesn't matter how credible he is. His testimony is what our court system describes as hearsay and is not admissible. Now, if you can get Morey to either validate or refute the claim, only then can you use that testimony as fact. There is a reason why we have that kind of standards when defining what is actually factual. Otherwise ,all you have to do is get somebody credible to make any claim. You really need to follow Haymitch's advise -read.
If his word (which goes against Morey's words and actions) is good enough for you to hold such a position, then that's good for you. But don't expect anyone to take you seriously.
