I'll grant you that signing Dwight should've at least made the Rockets a 2nd round team. I've said repeatedly that I believe they underachieved last season. That being said, no one doubted that they were a couple pieces away from contender status even after they signed him. The two biggest needs remain at the PF and PG spots(and quality depth). Dragic more than takes care of one of those. Uh, Dragic would do just fine here. Have you seen what happens to our offense when Harden leaves the game? Imagine handing the ball to Goran and letting him run the show for 12-15 minutes a night when James is sitting and then the two of them sharing ballhandling duties when they play together.
Dragic had a great season last year because he was the main guy who had the ball most of the time (he played his best stretch when Eric Bledsoe was out. This year he doesn't have the ball that much and he reverts back to average. Don't know why ppl here has no problem throw a max contract to him.
yup when you're surrounded by other unselfish players, the game works out for everyone. It's all about fit and dragic would be a great fit here.
It'd be strange to give a PG max money and still have that PG be the 2nd worst PG of any western conference playoff team. Beverley to Dragic. From 2nd worst playoff PG to a different 2nd worst playoff PG.
IT has taken away Dragic's minutes to run the 2nd unit. The Rockets desperately need another playmaker/go-to-guy to do that.
True, but the Gap would close considerably, which is what we need. A second playmaker on this team is so sorely needed.
I don't see any players I would consider under the selfish type on this team now. unless you are referring to someone in particular.
Harden looked pretty unselfish to me last night setting up D-Mo and Ariza in the 4th quarter instead of forcing the issue. Ariza is unselfish. Terry looks for his own shot(which is his role off the bench), but isn't a chucker. Papa is definitely unselfish. Dwight tries to force the issue sometimes in the post, but I wouldn't call him selfish. I'd say any PG who comes here, including Dragic, has nothing to worry about.
I think just watching them swing the ball around against Dallas gives fans hope that Houston is playing unselfish basketball. Harden has his moments but you can't fault the guy for what he's trying to do as the best player on the team and he's once again tops in the league in assists per game by a shooting guard. In other words, there isn't an Isaiah Thomas equivalent here on this team.
He has been Goran Tragic this season. Seems like playing without Frye is really taking a toll on his numbers... not sure if T-Jones or DMo would be any better than Markieff Morris tbh.
I understand why you would think this. However Gogi is a perfect complement to Harden. Gogi plays off the ball about as well as any point guard in the NBA. Last year Gogi had his most success off the ball. I am still skeptical the Rockets have the assets to get a deal done, but if the Rockets manage to get Gogi, they will be a serious Championship contender. Gogi and Harden in the backcourt would be the best backcourt duo in the NBA and average between 40-45 points a game with extreme efficiency.
playing with those two isn't really significant. it's Howard and harden you should be paying attention to.
That's because Frye was their lone respectable 3 point shooter last year. They still haven't addressed that issue either. Dragic on a team with Harden, Terry and Ariza will fair a whole lot better.
I am not speaking of "selfish" as a character flaw, I am just talking about how some guys naturally plays basketball. McHale talks about it last season-- most of our guys had a tendency to "massage the ball" some and things can get sticky unless they make a conscious effort to do otherwise. Howard, Harden and even Terrence a Jones tend to "stop the ball" at least for a few seconds when they get it.
With all due respect Carl, what All-Star player don't "stop the ball"? I can't defend Jones, but Harden and Howard would warrant needing more time with the ball since they're option 1A and 1B no? And just watching the team this season you can tell players are making an effort in getting the ball to the open man. The way they're swinging the ball at times could actually be a detriment at times.
Part of the reason for the ball getting "sticky"(and BTW, I hate that term) this season is we don't have any reliable playmakers not named Harden. It's not selfishness or massaging the ball. The guys we have out there simply aren't very good at creating offense. They need someone else to initiate it. Dragic would fit right in because he can fill that void when Harden is out of the game or is playing off the ball.
i see no jr smiths or josh smiths on this team. those are the "selfish" types of basketball players i was referring to with the way they play the game.
Not saying that "stopping the ball" is necessarily a bad thing if the player makes good use of it. My point is whether Dragic would have as many touches as he likes, and can be as effective as he was last season, with a few of these guys on the court.
I honestly think he would because right now players that are getting shots like Garcia are shooting because we have no other option to go to. I'm sure Harden wouldn't mind one bit if his scoring dropped to like 20ppg if it's to get Dragic more touches and if the team was winning more.
