If they go 11-5 they are in.

What scenario would suggest that they wouldnt?

Because they need other teams in front of them to lose. For example, 11 wins won't be enough to win the division if Indy wins out. And it may not be enough to win a wild card spot considering the AFC North, AFC West, and AFC East all have non leading division teams with better records than the Texans. The Texans are not in a position where they control their own destiny... They need help from other teams.

A lot of teams in the AFC will need help from one another. The Ravens, Steelers Dolphins Bengals and a few others could be on the outside looking in while the Texans at 11-5 could make the playoffs. It's going to be interesting

If we get 11 wins, indy will not have won out.

KC, San Diego, and Denver as well (I'm automatically assuming New England will win their division). But of course some need help because there are only so many playoff spots _ but some of those teams just have to win out and don't need any help and the Texans aren't in that kind of position. Maybe they would be if they would have beat Pittsburgh. But he asked for a scenario and I gave it to him.

My point is, if the Texans don't make the playoffs that may not be a deciding factor on rather or not Mallet gets paid (by the Texans). Schaub didn't make the playoffs and still got paid.

He played more games that year, and had more to do with them winning the division, than Mallett will have this year.

If he didn't, who did? TJ Yates?

They were 7-3 under Schaub. 3-3 under Yates (though he didn't play much in the last game). I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Schaub played a bigger role in them going 10-6 and making the playoffs than Yates did. If you want to give all the credit to the last QB who played then we should really be thanking Jake Delhomme.

Schaub was playing very well before that injury.

It was shaping up to be his 2nd best season after 2009.

If the Texans and Colts both finish 11-5 of course it goes to tiebreakers which are as follows

Head to head: Both teams would be 1-1 against each other so it cancels out
Division record: Both teams would be 5-1 in division so it cancels out
Best record against common opponents: Colts would win that tiebreaker because the Texans have lost to the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, and Steelers. Colts have only lost to the Eagles and Steelers.

Colts win the division. Texans hope for one of the wildcards.

Yea, but he didn't stay healthy... Matt Schaub didn't stay healthy and Michael Jordan retired and the Rockets won two championships (but Rockets fans aren't going to bring that up though)... It is what it is.

And Michael came back during the 2nd Championship, played extremely well in the playoffs, but lost to Orlando anyway (who the Rockets later swept). But people like you aren't going to bring that up though.
