Most of that was on Dalton. The same Cleveland D let Bortles beat them.

Not taking away anything from Mallet. That was very good, especially for a guy making his first NFL start.

He played well, but just for one game, the six games to go for his future in NFL.

Mallet should win another one next week.

Cincinatti is the 28th worst run defense.

Mallet will have some throwing lanes if Cincy decides to stack the box.

McClain may be paraphrasing or misrepresenting context... but that sounds an awful lot like BO'B is putting eggs in Mallett's basket; ie *my* QB did everything perfectly; the WRs were... "decent."

I don't think anybody should ever take stock in anything any coach says to any media member... ever.

Its all coach speak... so they can write their fluff stories.

To be fair there were several on here that wrote Mallett off as trash before ever giving him a chance. Go back and read this thread, its quite hilarious. :)

Ur reading too much into it, "decent" coming from OB is as good as it gets.

Mallett looked the part. It's worth noting that the o-line played a whale of a game too, but he did a good job against an elite secondary.

I think one underrated factor that BOB actually mentioned is the adjustment that the o-line had to go through (from the ZBS to now). People may not see it as a big switch but it's a wholly different system that they had to learn. Hoping that their performance will continue to improve.

If Mallet ends up being THE guy, we are set at QB with him and Fitz as the backup.

The schedule is fairly soft 10-6 is attainable.

If Mallet looks good for the rest of the season.... What type of contract do you guys think he'll receive...?

More than Fitz/Orton given his age... but the years/guaranteed money will be structured so that the Texans can cut him without much penalty if he regresses.

If he does well, he needs to consider staying... any "new" place, with a new system, is a recipe for further regression (and no former backup QB turned starter that has been a lifer under just one system has gone on to have significant success elsewhere... besides Matt Schaub, who really wasn't married to the system in ATL like Mallett is to BOB's system).

Can't we use the franchise tag on him if we need to?

Franchise tag is paying him the average of the top 5 salaries at his position, that would be an insane amount of money since he is a QB so I don't think that is likely.

Ultimately, if he looks good enough, I don't think it will cost an arm and a leg to keep him. We will see how it plays out. It will be a problem I would be glad to have if it does happen.
