I think it does make sense. Brewer is an OK player, but acquiring him for part of the TPE allows the Rockets to begin converting the TPE into a tradeble asset than can be conbined with other player salaries to get the "third star". this only works if you think Brewer is able to be flipped.
I look forward to waking up (mid afternoon your time) and hearing pleasantly about a Rockets trade. Brewer + Turriaf for Black+Dorsey+2 second round picks.
Black & Dorsey can't be traded until Dec 15. Brewer isn't worth any Rockets who are tradeable at the moment. Two guaranteed years on Brewer's contract. A second round pick to give up at most but I'd still want compensation for that 2nd year.
That's a lot! But the Rockets desperately need help behind Howard. Black and Dorsey are absolutely miserable!
Worst trade proposal this week. Jones has significant trade value, perhaps enough to get Dieng. Tjones for Dieng straight up.....
NO pick may be just a wind and it will. TJones for two legit backus and 2nd rounder that wont hurt our cap space later is good enough. And guys, not always our team will get best out of trade, you should be ready to give as well.
I'd say Brewer could be had for 1-2 second round picks, Turiaf isn't worth much either. TJones is pretty highly valued I'd say.
Thunder getting derailed changes everything, especially with the Rockets' unexpectedly strong start. Maybe Les-More have ditched the 2015 plan and are aggressively looking for any deal which can help the team now. If you start to include players who's contract ends after next season, instead of after this season, that adds a lot of extra options to boost the roster.
I don't think their strong start was unexpected. Before the season started, I tries to predict the first 20 games. I had the Rockets at 9-1 right now.
Brewer may be a D & fast break kinda guy & we need a backup for Harden, but he shoots <30% from 3 & <70% from the line. With our "rim, line & 3" offense, 1 out of 3 isn't good. Besides Ariza (80%) & TJ (75%) are the only Rockets taller than 6'8" shooting over 70% from the line, & career wise they are <70%. So why do we want to add to that group? Didn't the last 2 games point out the importance of ft's? I respect Doug Collins, but that "good teams don't play close games" comment was BS! According to that the Spurs & Heat weren't good teams in the 12-13 finals.
An opposing GM using Morey's reputation as leverage to say "see.... Houston will at least trade for him". However its a known fact that Morey will allow it to happen, and might even engage in talks afterwards with open ears. The fact is the Rockets wanted Brewer a couple years ago as a free agent. Obviously there is reason enough to pick up the phone. But I have a nagging suspicion that Morey would probably have higher interest in other players on their roster or might engage to try and be opportunistic ALA the Terry trade. I'd say the likelihood would most likely be pretty slim given the fact that Brewer has a player option for next year and there is little reason to believe he would agree to waive that option this Summer to help the Rockets out.
This isn't how morey thinks. He will improve the team by using the Lin TPE. I like Brewer, but he's not worth giving up Jones. Turiaf is just a bad rotation player.
