Even if 100% of us all agree that JVG would have won that series for us, it doesn't make it FACT. For the sake of argument, let's consider it a fact. There is no way we can conclude that Mchale is a bad coach because somebody else was better than him. Jordan was better than Dominique, hence the latter is a bad player.
Are you kidding? How about any adjustment. Zone, box and one, triangle and two, double, triple, trapping, fronting, pressure the passer, oh any adjustment but letting him drop 46 on you as you do nothing different each time down the floor. Hell, how about knocking him on his ass? Anything, literally anything.
Watch the games with your two bit big talk. I know what each and every one of those phrases means. Several were tried in the series. And none of them would be my first choice.
Several of them weren't tried in game one when LMA went for FORTY SIX points. What was the game one adjustment? Elucidate us, Fonzie.
People in general do this dumb thing to try so hard to romanticize the past that they forget everything that was annoying or "the same ****" about that time. JVG and Adelman eras both had a lot of annoying parts. Why were there so many "Fire JVG" and "Fire Adelman" threads if the past was so great?
So what should the Spurs have done to stop Hakeem from damn near dropping 40+ in each game. What should any of those teams done to prevent Michael Jordan from scoring 30+ in the playoffs. I can go own and own but hopefully you get my drift.
Soooo.... Why are we firing McHale again today? What fan base of an 8 - 1 team was ever this unhappy with their coach?
Don't take such a fantasy b'ball approach. You seriously want Bill Fitch to coach the team? WTF do you want?
JVG would take fade-away twos all game. Kevin was correct in keeping his adjustment. Aldridge played the best 6 game stretch of his career.
Is that the same JVG who had Yao and Tracy, a worse winning % than McHale, and never took the Rockets past the first round of the playoffs? All you do is imagine stuff and say it's better than reality. "If JVG were the Rockets coach again, and Dwight Howard still decided to sign here to be coached by JVG even though he didn't like SVG, and we had the same record as last year and hit Portland in the playoffs even though JVG teams score like 85 points per game, and JVG coached the playoffs the same as McHale until the LMA problem emerged, THEN he would have done better than reality!" This is your method of thinking about basketball.
JVG as Rockets Head Coach (Offense) 2003-2004: 89.8 ppg, league rank 25 2004-2005: 95.1 ppg, league rank 20 2005-2006: 90.1 ppg, league rank 29 2006-2007: 97.0 ppg, league rank 17 Sounds like just the guy to coach Harden and Howard! (not)
I have to admit that I have called McHale McFail a million times and have wanted him to be fired just as much as many here. BUT, I also now have to give him credit for this teams great start! It's not just the players doing it themselves. Although no coach is perfect, I can honestly say that I haven't seen one game where I was displeased with what McHale was doing in that game..to me at least. I did feel that way during the preseason when he was playing Ish so much and I just felt that Cannon was ready to take that next step after his summer league games. Fortunately, McHale finally saw the light and Cannon has proved that he deserved that opportunity. Other than that, I can't find anything to dislike about what McHale is doing right now. And although the defensive schemes and plans may be coming from Bickerstaff or Dunn, it still starts with the plans from the head coach, so I have to give McHale credit for that. I hope that he continues to not be a major factor in games. By that I mean, making bone headed substitutions or the like during games where you feel that he is affecting the game other than the players on the court. I know it's easy to say this since the team has a great record, but really to me it is more of the way the team is playing defense than anything. I think the offense will continually get better throughout the season, especially once Harden gets his shot going consistently. If this is the McHale we will see all season long, I am perfectly fine with him being our coach long term. Hopefully he will learn to make great adjustments in game once we deal with HOF coaches that adjust to us during games.
Truth that. McHale has never failed as a Rockets head coach, but he did not live up to fan expectations several times. We fans are a horrible judge of NBA talent, we are all homies, and we have our hearts broken regularly. That is just who we are. Trust Morey. Trust McHale. They will make the best decisions they can. But they are human. But they are not Khan.
Most talented and injury free squad with the worst playoff success (going back 4 coaches). I forgot the part where the post season wasn't the real test. The guy is a buffoon, but people wanting him to get fired based on RS play need to stop. He isn't really getting exposed since the game isn't nearly as tactical, the "fire milkhair" squad needs to talk about his post season coaching.
