Move this to the Hangout. The Dish is specifically for planning the destruction of Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons. Don't you know?

Mike Conley is one of my favorite players too. He won me over since the 2013 playoffs. His game is just something to admire.

That is a little weird because the two years they were contenders were average or down years for OT in the playoffs. The first championship he put up 11 and 10 (.4 blocks!) in 37 minutes. Excellent defense, of course, but he was always good for that. But essentially from 89-90 to his last year his numbers and attempts (asserting himself) were all on the decline.

    So...uh...cool.

Why do you associate lower point averages as down years? Also a player that scores 12 points in the forth quarter of a game on is better than 25 points in the first quarter of a game ... right? Stats hardly make sense in this regard. When you get your points matters almost as much as how many you get, maybe more.

Which is to say, if you look back at the first championship run, you'll see that Otis had to guard Karl Malone, he had many games where he had an uncommon # of assists and steals for an interior player, he also had a many 14 to 20 point games. He was a jack of all trades in those games doing a little bit of everything.

I did not do that. You wrote that he asserted himself more in the "contender" years. I posted that almost all his numbers were down accross the boards. He shot fewer times on a lower percentage. His FT was his average. His rebounding was on average and slightly better the championship year, his assists were down a little. Blocks and steals were minimal. So, to me, OT was what he was at that time - a solid defensive and rebounding 4 who was way past his offensive prime.

And, no, a player who scores 10 in the fourth is not having a better game than the on who scored 25 points in the first. Both bursts can be valuable for a team for different reasons but 25 >10. Points do not count for more in the 4th.

Too bad Conley couldn't get through to Oden. Possibly work out together and bring back the charisma in Oden. They were teammates for years right?

Today I realized that I have not been in a Gerlands grocery store in 20 years.
